    Macintosh SE black screen

If brightness knob isn’t issue, I’d say carefully open it up and make sure everything is still connected where it should be. I know the Plus has a habit of cracked solder joints on the analog board that can be reflowed. Not sure if SE is known to have those as well. But if so, perhaps that may...

Getting G3 Whisper Perch USB working

I picked up a new in box USB 1.1 card. The picture on the box had the correct CMD chip but when I opened the packaging the card had a different CMD chip (totally different numbers and square shape instead of rectangle).

Houdini II card - no cable

If I’m remembering correctly, the RAM section being grayed out in the control panel is because it likes the RAM that is installed in the card. If it didn’t detect any RAM installed on card, that grayed out selection would allow you to specify how much of the Mac’s memory you would like to share...

    DOS CARD

I have a 6100 with the Houdini II card. With a separate 16MB stick of RAM installed on the card, it seems to run Windows 95b decently well (using I believe the PC Setup 1.6.4 drivers and Mac OS 8.1). Windows 3.1 also works very well. I tried Windows 98 at one point with PC Setup 2.something...

    Guide or recommendations for 8.0/8.1?

Unless you have some specialty hardware (G3 accelerator, non-native supported network card, etc), the only things I’d add to 8.1 are a 2020 date patch of some sort and a screen saver. Otherwise just enjoy it with the software you want to use. In my experience, 8.1 works great on every PPC that...

    Odd issues with PDQ

As someone with a Wallstreet, I agree it’s very temperamental. Couple of ideas: Make sure RAM is decent quality. Confirm that metal cover plate over CPU is screwed down all the way as I believe that’s how CPU dissipates heat. For OS 9, I believe I did a retail 9 install then updated to 9.0.4...

Speeding up a Color Classic - Without mystic or Takky

A 520 logic board can be bumped from 25mhz to 33mhz (which I believe is what the 550 board runs at) by moving a resister on the bottom of the board. Also has the benefit of not being limited to 10MB of RAM like the stock CC board.

    BlueSCSI & SCSI2SD - corruption

My initial guess is that powering both from the SCSI bus may be too much, potentially causing the voltage to drop and a symptom of that being the data corruption. Again, this is just a guess based off my own experiences of running a Raspberry Pi at just under its stated voltage range and...

1/2 AA battery Replacement! MoewToast Rev. 2

Just put in an order :) looking forward to giving them a try! Also put in an order for the LCD bracket. Going to see if I can use it in a leftover SE/30 case that I have (original computer went into a MacEffects case years ago), and pair it with a Raspberry Pi. @Geekybit is there a good LCD...

What System Software do you recommend running for the PowerBook 140

Of course 7.1 will run faster than 7.5. Same as 6.0.8 is faster than 7.1. Less features and overhead, etc. That said, if you’re putting the features to use then it isn’t bloat, it’s added functionality at the expense of performance. In my case, I have 2 SE/30s, one of them at the stock 16mhz...

What System Software do you recommend running for the PowerBook 140

Depends on how much much RAM you have installed. 4MB or less: System 7.1.x More than 4MB: System 7.5.5

Compiling MacFlim's flimmaker on ARM - Raspberry Pi?

This was an adventure. Tried installing WSL on an existing Windows 10 Bootcamp install on my old MacBook (16gb RAM). For whatever reason something wasn’t working right with it, strange errors and never got it to get to point of encoding video frames. Ended up installing Linux Mint on a spare...

Compiling MacFlim's flimmaker on ARM - Raspberry Pi?

@avadondragon did you ever get this working on a raspberry Pi 4gb model? I also am running into an issue with it. Reads around 4100 frames then crashes in Terminal or the entire Pi freezes.
