I'm looking to build a takky myself using a 5500 board, but I'm not sure what 640x480 mod is required. In PowerCC they talk about the VGA and the HiRes mods on the Takky page, which one is better? Do I have to cut and solder the transformer traces on both configurations?
I always try to keep as close to original as possible, I has a hard battle againt some MiniScribe drives trying to get my Mac Plus back to its origins. But SCSI drives will always eventually fail, so I think it's a good option after all. I was thinking it may be possible to use the activity LED...
So I got an original M5120 Macintosh Portable a few months ago. It was listed as non working, but after a recap it would turn on again fine. The real issue was the hard drive. It was impossible to make it work. It would keep the Macintosh on a permanent rebooting loop. After doing a couple tests...
Ok, it seems I panicked too early. I dishwashed the logic board again and now it works fine. Usually I put the board on the dishwasher after recapping, or after removing the caps, I don't know why this time I did it before. I guess some electrolyte may have spilled when removing the caps. It...
Ok, i found out it's the chip responsible for ADB management. It'll be helpful to know what voltage should I read from the 5V ADB pin when the computer is shutted down, but the switch is ON. Right now I'm reading 0.18V, that goes up to 5V if I isolate the logic board to analog board connection.
I'd need some help here with a Macintosh Color (ColoUr) Classic I bought a couple weeks ago. It was listed as not working, but when I got here a quick inspection at the logic board revealed a bad placed ROM chip, which had two pins out of the socket. Once placed properly it booted up, although...
Yes, be careful not to go too high, you don’t want quick expansing gasses inside the screen that may crack it. Also vinegar could appear. Bake for longer and if you have it add some dissecant, like silica bags or similar
Well, it may be the case. Even I don't see it in the platter, the seal has turned into some kind of oil. By the way, should I do something on my working Portable drive to prevent it from happening?
A few days ago I got a good deal on a non working M5120 Macintosh Portable. I recapped it and it works fine except for the floppy and the hard drive. I think the floppy drive may have dirty heads or something, because mechanically it seems to work, but can't read or initialize any disc.
I had a...
It's the most likely, I remember a thread or a manual in The Macintosh Repository explaining how to encapsule old software using Stuffit and then ZIP to avoid this problems
Alright, I could test the drive using Micronet and found out one bad sector (9569), but using Micronet to reallocate it leads to the clicking noise and a couple of errors. I think I'm done here. :`-(
Last night I tried a few things and none worked. With Silverlining or FWB at least I could get it mounted, but every formatting option with Micronet led me to an error. Low-level format seemed to work OK all the process until at the end it got stuck on the click-click sector. I'll give it...
