    Prototype PowerBook 550 advice

I like the EVT serial # on that!

    Performa450's Machines

Not quite as exotic this time - picked up a smashed up Powerbook G4 12" as I needed a charger, and genuine chargers appear expensive on the bay. It has turned up, but is in pretty decent shape apart from the smashed screen. There's a jammed memory bay door screw, but, other than that and the...

    2013 MacBookAir - MagSafe2 alternatives?

Have you cleaned the contacts on the MacBook, adapter and MagSafe 2 cable? I frequently get MagSafe 2 machines only charging with the cable one way round and it’s usually a clean needed. Also try resetting the SMC and PRAM if you can get that far.

    Amazing! Thanks for this.

    Help Identifying Macintosh Notebook

One more point on this - the “Elsie” LC prototype with a pretty much final case predates this one (I’ve seen a couple online and there is one for ten grand on eBay at the moment), so I don’t think the case with the adjustable legs was the planned LC case, more that this was a design concept for...

    Help Identifying Macintosh Notebook

Yep, agreed, with an alternate LC case. The internal mounts on that look correct to fit an LC board, PSU and floppy drives in, whilst not actually being put together or shaped like the LC’s case… and a date stamp predating the release of the LC. Perhaps a mock-up of an LC based all in one.

It predates the LC, which makes it being an internal apple prototype all the more convincing to me.

Also : the keyboard is an engineering sample and the lower case is roughly finished and appears to have an August 1990 date stamp and (TOOL#1). I reckon it’s an apple concept/prototype

    Help Identifying Macintosh Notebook

Yes more pics please! It would be interesting to see pics from all angles. I’ve never seen anything quite like that before. Looking at the photo it appears that the upper/front case may be in two parts - the top ridge on the LC doesn’t go right the way round to the front of the case. It...

What Apple Prototype Did I just Stumble Upon “Flamingo” ? 920-1873-03

I think I saw something similar being sold as a production line testing board a while back. 920- boards seem to be that kind of thing - I have an iPod board and a couple or Apple Watch breakout boards. Not sure what this is though.

G5 DVT unit - basket case or worth trying to get the board repaired...

I've never seen another exactly like this - I have a working release version of it, which was $100 and I can definitely use for parts for it. As a prototype I'd guess it could be worth maybe $500 fully working? I'd expect it would be very hard to sell due to shipping, etc - it's not a super...

G5 DVT unit - basket case or worth trying to get the board repaired...

Picked up this a few years ago as "needing a new PSU", however on tearing it down the board looks like it has seen liquid and has impact damage - worth a repair? Anyone know someone in the UK who could look at this: https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/performa450s-machines.44085/post-483273

    Performa450's Machines

Have now fully dismantled this - unfortunately found the following: * a cap next to the processor power supplies fell off (!) when the board unclipped. This does not bode well for the rest of it... * here's a shot of the (dead) DVT PSU * nice collection of screws and components in the bottom of...

MacBook Pro 17" 2.0 Core Duo DVT

Yeah I had a 2006 15” (but Core 2 Duo) - such an upgrade from the 17” G4. The rate of progress seemed much quicker in the 00’s, I was keeping machines for around 3 years then. I retired my 2012 15” a little over a year ago.

And... looking closely at the top left of the board I suspect the connector damage is just to the plastic - you can see the board has lost a couple of capacitors and theres a chipped coil too, so probably impact damage. I will have to check my donor machine to see what is missing.

MacBook Pro 17" 2.0 Core Duo DVT

I actually need to strip it down again, as it has developed the old whiny fans problem that these machines had.

MacBook Pro 17" 2.0 Core Duo DVT

Ended up taking around 3 or 4 months to get the correct display for it. Also managed to source a (comestically damaged, but new) battery for it a couple of years ago.
