    My Boxed Apple Software Shelf

The two copies of AppleShare 4.0 are still shrinkwrapped. I'm pretty sure I have a 'paper ream box' in my storage area with a few more pieces of boxed Apple software.  (I could swear I had QT VR Authoring Kit sealed, too.) (This is part of my ongoing effort to clean/organize my vintage...

Poor man's imaging workstation, circa 1990...

Dug my OneScanner out of my storage area. (Slowly getting things consolodated to my main "workspace".)  Figured it was appropriate to connect to the SE I've been using to test floppy disks.  (Dual SuperDrive plus external 800k drive, with internal SCSI2SD. (Love that green glow of a monochrome...

Just when I thought I was out...they pull me back in!

<sigh> Just shipped off two compact Macs to two fine gents on here this morning. So this evening, I picked up three more from Craigslist...  The haul is still in the trunk of my car because I got home barely in time to start work. But here are the pictures and list from the Craigslist...

Color Classic power supply making "clicking" sounds!

In powering it on just now, it did its proper "BONG" startup sound, and I could hear the CRT starting to power up, then the power supply started making rapid, staticky "clicking" sounds.  Needless to say, I immediately hard powered off!  Anyone have any ideas before I rip it apart?

Last piece of my IIc setup - IIc Flat Panel Display!

Thanks to theslownorris, my IIc setup is now complete. Apple IIc with Flat Panel Display, IIc external floppy, Mouse IIc.  Running MousePaint.  (Using apps that expect square pixels on the LCD is hard.) Traded my IIc+ and an Amiga 1000 setup for it.  (Amiga 1000, keyboard, mouse, external...

Anyone with a ROM-inator II programmer willing to program for me?

I couldn't see myself wanting to reprogram it often/at all, so I didn't spend the $60+shipping on a programmer. But now I find myself wanting to change the ROM drive.  Anyone with a programmer willing to let me send them my ROM-inator II, have them program it, then send it back?  (I'd pay...

    Twinsies for my 180s.

Just picked up a PowerBook 180c to go with my grayscale 180.  Chassis is in generally good condition - someone had done a hinge repair in the past that left a couple exposed screws visible on the exterior top lid, but they are very small and well done. Only 4 MB RAM, and came with System...

eBay Score! PBG3 PDQ loaded with accessories.

Saw a PowerBook G3 listed for relatively cheap, $25 minimum bid, so I put it on my watch list.  With 4 days to go, it had two bids, up to $30.  I figured I'd bid $31 on a lark, just to see if I could get it. What do you know - I did! Pretty pedestrian system: PowerBook G3, 14.1" screen, 266...

    Un Duo Trio

Okay, one of them isn't a 68k, but two are, so I figured it belonged here rather than the PPC 'books section.  (Plus, the Duo 2300c is basically just a 68k logic board with a PowerPC stuffed on it.) Got all three cleaned up, got all my docks lined up, so decided it was a good opportunity to...

Boot a IIgs from a Floppy Emu?

I know it has to be possible, but for the life of me I can't get my IIgs (ROM 3 if it matters,) to boot from my newly-delivered Floppy Emu. I put the A2 firmware on, and it mounts when I boot from a floppy just fine (in either floppy or smart port hard drive mode.) But I can't get it to boot...

Decisions, decisions... (How to allocate parts in 5x0 series)

I have three Blackbirds.  I can make two "good" Blackbirds out of the parts, plus one "pretty crappy" one. I have two good physical condition cases, one pretty beat up case. (screen side latch snapped so it doesn't stay shut, pretty big chip in the front bottom plastic at the very front where...

    Partial success restoring PowerBook 100

I've had a "flaky" PowerBook 100 for some time.  The big problem is bit-rot in the display (see attached picture.) The case is also in less-than-great condition, and it has a dead 40 MB hard drive.  But the logic board works great! So I found on eBay a PB100 where the display obviously powered...

Thanks, mysterious 68kmla'er whose forum name I don't know!

Well, in the Craigslist finds thread, there was an ad local to me with a *LOT* of great gear - Power Mac G3 with original dark blue Studio Display, color NextStation Turbo, Mystic Color Classic, etc.  I replied within a couple hours of the ad going live, but someone else had beaten me to it, and...

The family portrait - 128k(ish) through Color Classic(ish).

After getting the Classic and Classic II back up and running, I decided it was time for a family portrait. Unfortunately, two of the 'working' machines decided to crap out when I went to take this picture - the Classic II  :simasimac:  and the Color Classic  >:(< But the Plus...

RECOVERY! Classic and Classic II back booting again.

After doing some motherboard cleanup on both (yes, I'll need to re-cap them both at some point,) I managed to get both my Classic and Classic II working again.  The Classic also had a single wire loose on the analog board that I got back in place. Bonus: In finding working hard drives for them...

    DaynaFile hackiness

As documented in my "Liberation" thread about my SE/30 with Radius Pivot Display, the haul also included a DaynaFile dual-5.25" drive external SCSI unit. I had never even heard of these units until getting this one - it seems like a great accessory, a SCSI peripheral (so no funky controller...

Next in the closet cleaning: Power Macintosh 7100/66!

After the debacle with my IIsis (update: I got one to work!) I have moved on to my next reachable machine: Power Macintosh 7100/66.  Yes, the slow 'original launch' model.  And just like I remembered, it has System 7.1.2 (the earliest OS capable of running on any PowerPC,) on it.  Complete with...

Picking up tomorrow: SE/30 with Radius Pivot monitor!

Arranged to get it tomorrow. The SE/30 has some kind of video card, pictures show it running the Radius Pivot monitor in portrait mode.  Plus what looks to be a few paper ream boxes worth of software, much of it boxed.  (Excel 2.0, Word 4.0, two boxes of Aldus Pagemaker, Dayna DOS Mounter.)

The digging continues: IIsi's found, borked.

The "digging out" of my basement closet (under the stairs) continues.  After pulling out all the compact Macs, I found my two IIsi systems within easy(ish) reach. First one, opened it up, looked fine inside.  Tried to power it on, the power supply went *SPARK* *BANG* *fizzle* *smoke*. Alrighty...

    RAM Bonanza!

Since I now have a working, easily-accessible-RAM-slots 72-pin Mac up and running (well, I *DID*, see my "CC2 stopped booting" thread...) and a 30-pin system up and running, I decided to test all my RAM.  Also looked up the part numbers on modules I couldn't test. Found my twelve 16 MB 30-pin...
