I have multiple SCSI drives on a Macintosh SE. When running 6.0.8, any second or third (non-booting) drive is mounted and appears on the desktop once the computer has booted.
When running 7.0.1, only the booting drive appears on the desktop. I can use PMount to mount the second drive and then...
Strange video but it's a little bit the same problem: The comments seem to indicate that I'm not alone. I'm not sure how and where to insert oil... On the other side, there are the plates - certainly not a good idea to put oil on the other side along the plates.
I'm resuming this thread. I still have an issue with the drive and I'm 99.99% certain that the logic board of the drive is OK.
- Sometimes, the disk starts rotating and everything is fine. That happens 100% of the time if the drive was working in the past 5 minutes or so.
- sometimes, the disk...
Thank you for the suggestion. For the records, the software disk file (found on a RaSCSI related website) was the issue. In other words, it was not a hardware issue. This file disk always appeared locked. I created another hda file disk and it was writable from the Mac on the same SD card and...
I have manged to boot and rotate the disk once but it doesn't seem to be reliable. Does anyone know where the hall sensor is located? Is this the little flex in the PCB hole between the main 3 chips (just on top of the center of the disk axis)? Has anyone tried to replace this sensor?
There is a morse-code error code displayed by the LED according to this page: https://stason.org/TULARC/pc/hard-drives-hdd/miniscribe/M8425S-21MB-3-5-HH-SCSI1-SE.html
My error seems to be code E: No hall transitions during spin-up
Any idea what it means precisely?
I have a MacSE with an internal Miniscribe 8425S 20MB hard-drive. The drive has stopped working in 1990 and it hasn't been touched since then.
The issue is that the drive doesn't spin at all. There is no disk rotation when it boots.
I have opened the drive and both the PCB board and the...
On a Powerbook 145B, my blue SCSI disk appears as locked and I can't write to it. This happens even if I boot the Powerbook with the internal hard-drive or the blue SCSI (SD card) disk.
Am I missing something? Is there a setting somewhere to lock/unlock blueSCSI disk?
Note that I have an Apple...
If you want to plug a SCSI <-> SD card tool with a 50-pin header into the DB-25 SCSI port (25 pins) in the back of your mac, you need an adapter. You can build it yourself: https://github.com/Stephen-Arsenault/OverEasy or buy one that you will find on eBay or similar.
You can use a...
Thank you. Fixed! I have removed indeed the keys, which are in two parts: the white plastic part and the key. Indeed, don't force but raise up the key. Then, some compressed air fixed the problem.
I have a working Powerbook 145b and the keyboard has 2 defect keys: Z and X. It doesn't seem to be a connection problem. Mechanically, the 2 keys seem fine.
Has anyone successfully repaired a Powerbook keyboard? Can a key be lift off without breaking the plastic key?
I have tried everything, still no luck. I believe that it's a termination issue because if I remove the SCSI cable, the laptop immediately boots with the internal drive. I do have the two jumpers on value 0.
Question: If you have a HDI-30 cable to DB25 to bluescsi, you power bluescsi with USB...
Thank you for the replying but it's not "completely helping" ;-).
There is a similar thread here:
There are other threads which people say they have managed to plug bluescsi externally. This is why I'm asking that if someone has managed to do it, he describes how he did it! (including jumper...
I have a working / booting PowerBook 145b from the internal hard-drive.
I have a DB25 bluescsi device.
I have a HDI-30 to DB25 cable.
If I don't plug the cable, the PowerBook boots from the internal hard-drive.
If I plug the cable HDI-30 to DB25 to bluescsi (which is also powered by USB)...
