    PowerBook 3500 video repair

While I wouldn't guarantee it, they do seem to be compatible on the surface. Hopefully someone else can confirm.

    PowerBook 3500 video repair

I saw that too but when they take the 3400 board out you can see it matches mine and the datasheet (https://www.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheets_pdf/K/M/4/1/KM416V254DJ-6.shtml) reports them as 256k x 16bit for 1MB of vram. 800x600 at 16bit color just barely fits in that frame buffer.

    PowerBook 3500 video repair

Here's a front and back shot of the 3400c. Very very similar layout.

    PowerBook 3500 video repair

Mac Gurus and Low End Mac report the 3400c as having 1MB and based on the board layout that makes sense. To say I'm a bit confused would be an understatement. The 3400c uses different pin spacing from the kanga so it's unlikely to be able to use them.

    PowerBook 3500 video repair

According to the datasheet you have 2MB. 256K x 16 is in words not bytes. Double the 256 to get the byte total. Unless I'm mistaken. https://www.versalogic.com/wp-content/themes/vsl-new/assets/resources/support/pdf/65550.pdf

    PowerBook 3500 video repair

I'm now questioning my own repair on a 3400c. It has two 256K x 16 chips next to it's 65550. Does the 65550 have it's own internal memory?

Always feels like Christmas when you find an unexpected accelerator card

I've gotten lucky a few times from eBay. My iici has a Daystar 50MHz 68030 card and my Powermac 7500/100 a XLR8 G3 upgrade. I also managed to snag a DLSD 17" from a lot of powerbooks that showed up in nearly flawless condition with a still functional battery. Each time felt like I stole something.

E-Machines Futura MX issues in IIci

Oh. My. God. I tried every combination but I expected to see something before the OS booted (I have 128MB in my iici so it takes an eternity to boot) and never did. I let it boot on 678 and boom there it was. 1024x768 millions of colors. You have no idea how mad I am at myself but also ecstatic...

E-Machines Futura MX issues in IIci

I'll have to build this sense code adapter tomorrow to make sure it works on the MX (I'm sure it does)! Absolute genius life saver. I thought I was going to be stuck with this thing only semi-working!

E-Machines Futura MX issues in IIci

Yup nothing. Every other type 7 code works (Sense Codes) to certain degrees on an old VGA LCD. Since tattletech crashes when using that RGB 19 (1024x768) dip switch setting it does appear to be doing something.

E-Machines Futura MX issues in IIci

You wouldn't mind pulling the ROM off of your LX would you? RGB 19" setting is actually crashing the system when I try to open tattletech displays with another display plugged into the built in video. I've tried all the settings above with a no sense adapter with no luck. Nothing in monitors or...

E-Machines Futura MX issues in IIci

I don't have the manual actually. Information on E-Machines products are next to none at this point. I have seen those cables I just don't get why a VGA monitor wouldn't work. The tables I've found have multiple configs which do include a vga setting. Even if we ignore that, it specifically...

E-Machines Futura MX issues in IIci

We've tried a no sense adapter but with zero luck. Is that sync separation different than what is standard on mac DA-15? On that it is straight through to VGA for sync signals.

E-Machines Futura MX issues in IIci

I've had no luck trying to find info on that cable or how it works. Does anyone have anything about that 0008773-0001?

DayStar PowerCache 50MHz IIci Performance Results

Welp did that and ran system 7.1 in a ram disk using RamDisk+ with no change in results. Really zips around system 7 tho 😝

DayStar PowerCache 50MHz IIci Performance Results

I'm running 2.2. I am thinking of making a ram disk to force into bank b just for giggles but running in a ram disk shouldn't make any difference unless macbench did a really poor job of pre caching the test data.

DayStar PowerCache 50MHz IIci Performance Results

I thought that was about the enhanced powermath with redirecting SANE instructions to the FPU. Kinda agree. I want some disk benchmarking software to give me latency numbers. So I found a control panel called CacheControl which also said my data cache was disabled. Checked it and now I scored...

DayStar PowerCache 50MHz IIci Performance Results

I've run it without it and also gotten a massive performance drop and how that switch works, as op states, is pretty ambiguous to what it's doing. If for some reason the onboard L2 isn't being enabled but the rest are working it would have a strange middle man drop. Having to get into...

DayStar PowerCache 50MHz IIci Performance Results

Figures lol. But something like the cache not working would cause such a strange drop off. I know one of the SE upgrades has an issue with that when not using the original adapter board.

DayStar PowerCache 50MHz IIci Performance Results

No difference with CPU charger left out. Does tattletech show your CPU as having it's data cache disabled?
