SE/30 (and others) RTC Replacement / Emulator with ATTiny85

We have a booting Reloaded board with the ATTinyRTC! Waiting on a Battery Holder to make sure it isn't impacted by having the battery installed!

Macintosh SE/30 logicboard recreation (thread revival)

Well, So we know 2 things for sure. 1: The reset line is pulled high naturally through RP7. 2: The SONY chip, and the reset switch should be the only items able to pull the line to ground. So if I am seeing anything but a stable voltage, something is dragging the line down. The fact that it was...

Well, I finally fixer her! The reset line was shorted to the address bus on A0. Micro brige under the socket for UE10, pin 40 to 41! Thanks to everyone who lent assistance!

So I have tried a known good 68030. Same behavior. (And this 68030 works too so that's good.) I have reflowed the CPU socket, verifying there are no bridges between F12 and any surrounding pins. I swapped the SONY ICs around. No difference. I am seeing the same behavior. 3MHz oscillation...

Yeah, I used a new socket so no wick was involved in extracting the old socket, I am going to re-flow all the pins to the new socket to rule out any bridge from my soldering the unit in. I will also tone out pin F12, reset, to everything around it to see if I can hunt it down.

Macintosh SE/30 logicboard recreation (thread revival)

Well, I got a scope and checked the signals. Clock was good, but lo and behold, the RESET line has a 3MHz oscillation on it! I went one chip at a time until I figured out is was the 68030 itself that was putting this on the line! Once the CPU came out the RESET line was a stable ~5v. Has...

Yes. Both a stock ROM and a Rominator II :)

Sadly I am scopeless. I may have to finally bite the bullet and order a scope.

I have also checked the lines through RP1 and UD1, those tone out good. I have to work to tone out the ROM socket next, and obviously these chips were from a blown board so even the CPU could be bad.

No death chimes at the moment. No sounds happening at all.

Macintosh SE/30 logicboard recreation (thread revival)

I Have toned out the connections from bank A SIMMs to the Resistor Packs and then from the RPs to the UI/UJ2,3,4 and that is all good. So address muxes seem fine. Everything on this board is new components from mouser whenever possible. No combination of RAM and ROM (inc rominator) changes the...

Macintosh SE/30 logicboard recreation (thread revival)

Well I am nearing the end of the build! But I am getting the lovely horizontal lines no matter what RAM or ROM combination I use. Any thoughts on the first component to suspect?

SE/30 (and others) RTC Replacement / Emulator with ATTiny85

Hey Phil, You are a legend. I have everything on order and will test in my working SE/30 and the bombed one we are building into a Bolle Reloaded board. Should I avoid putting battery power in the circuit to not damage the chip?

SE/30 (and others) RTC Replacement / Emulator with ATTiny85

Thanks for the response Phil, it is super appreciated. Was thinking of getting the SparkFun Tiny AVR programmer. Based upon the language in the product description I can program it directly in the Arduino IDE. Do you think I would be able to put your code into the IDE and use this tool to...

SE/30 (and others) RTC Replacement / Emulator with ATTiny85

Hi Phil, Would love to know if these are programmable on a Windows box? Let me know what I may need to do (if you can)

I Feel like I may be missing something obvious but I cannot find if anyone has posted a good source of 30 pin SIMM sockets, and for the 64 pin ROM socket. My donor board has some corrosion issues and would prefer to replace if possible. Thanks much!

USA here, though I am not opposed to paying for international shipping expenses if it comes down to it.

Macintosh SE/30 logicboard recreation (thread revival)

Has anyone done an order recently that could sell off a spare board? Certainly looking to get a project off the ground.

I am still very interested! Very excited for the project

I would be down to go in on an order. I have a battery bomb project just aching for a new home.
