    Awful Macintosh SE FDHD Revival

It's amazing what you accomplished! No way did I think that computer would ever work again. And the case looks fantastic. How did you get the rust stains off the plastic?

    Color classic screen fritz

Sure. I just soldered the little spring clips, there are four of them, directly to the logic board. Normally they are held in place with tension only. It's done the trick and no more screen problems.

    Color classic screen fritz

Yup, was the clips. I soldered them onto the logic board and all is well.

    Color classic screen fritz

Seems to be a grounding problem the more I mess with it. Reflowed all the logic board connectors, the yoke board on the back of the screen, and the grounds on the plug. Still intermittent screen power. The clips might be the main problem. Should I solder them on the logic board?

    Color classic screen fritz

Do you mean the little spring clip tabs that are on the logic board?

    Color classic screen fritz

I won't be surprised if the solution to this problem is so obvious I should have seen it. My Color Classic is acting up. Screen will stay dark, or come in and be darkish blue, or be on with no color. Thumping on the case can fix this. Or not. I'm guessing a bad sodler joint. But where?

    The compact Mac krewe

Oh and I use a retrobrite method I learned here. Salon 40 in a dog food container in the hot sun. Worked like a charm. Did all the keyboards as well.

    The compact Mac krewe

That's a 128k on the far left. Made in early October 84'. It's the one I had a lot of trouble with in another thread.

    The compact Mac krewe

Thanks! They were my project this year. Took advantage of the summer sun to do all the cases. As for the form factor, I guess the modern iMac is the winner winner chicken dinner on longevity. What's it's been now, 17 years?

    The compact Mac krewe

Here they are, my modest collection. All work, have had caps replaced, cases retrobrited, and floppies fixed. The Plus I've had since 97'. The SE since 98'. My first Mac was an SE. Bought new in April of 87' for $1800. (Great deal) Hot rodded over the years, 45 mg internal HD, 030...

Well it used to work: 128k woes

New ROMS installed and all is well. Boots and runs fine. Floppy Emu has a version of system 1! Fun times. My first Macintosh experience was in 1985 on a similar machine at work. It was an astounding revelation, and this brings all those memories back.

Well it used to work: 128k woes

That's interesting info, but I'm afraid it's above my pay grade to implement. I do have a set of ROMS on the way from ebay.

Well it used to work: 128k woes

I've scrubbed the pins, they were tarnished a lot. Still no go. In good news I got the 400k drive working! I bought a NOS felt pad for the drive off ebay, installed it, and now it works well. The old pad was almost totally gone.

Well it used to work: 128k woes

Switched F6 and F7, installed my Plus ROMS and it booted. Put the original ROMS back in and the same problem. Tried it a couple more times and it seems that I've got bad original ROM or ROMS.

    I'll give that a try.

Well it used to work: 128k woes

I just have a multimeter, will that work to test the caps?

Well it used to work: 128k woes

Hmm, would it boot if I remove F6?

Well it used to work: 128k woes

Oh yeah, one capacitor was backwards. I fixed that. Still the same.

More troubleshooting: Swapped in the ROM chips from a working Mac Plus. Got the error code 02002

Well it used to work: 128k woes

Hi everyone. So my recently acquired 128k with the 512k socketed upgrade won't boot now. I had the caps replaced and upon return I get no bong on power up and a screen of vertical lines. Installed a Plus logic board and it boots fine. So far I've reseated all the RAM chips. Cleaned the ROM...
