I was thinking that too.. actually I’m thinking if you took a 190 and replaced its screen with an active one from a 5300 (maybe even a CE?) and gave it a full 68040 you’d pretty much have the best portable 68k machine!
Not a Lisa, but I did get a nice wee surprise today. Bought a rough looking Se and SE/30 a couple of weeks ago. I wasn’t entirely sure if they worked or not, or if it was even an SE/30 as the bucket seemed to be that of a SE. Well got them unpacked today and wow they’re dirty.. but...
Well I already have a cube.. 😅
Mac TV is a difficult one.. it was a miracle being able to get the LC 520.. I expect any Mac TV would become a surprise jigsaw puzzle in shipping.
Maybe I could paint my 520? 😂
Yeah I’m not gonna paint it.. it’s a pretty unique machine.. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 550 with a grey case. Certainly haven’t seen one pictured anywhere I searched for it. Besides hopefully soon I’ll have a retail 550c in black and with PCMCIA cage!
I’ve actually spent today...
Thanks for all the input from everyone above…
Good news.. it’s now working!
Kinda. It still occasionally glitches. I think it’s also partially due to the ribbon cable that goes from the board under the Apple logo to the LCD itself.
But at least I know it’s worth trying to save! And the...
Not sure, I’ve not yet had a look at a 550c teardown to compare the parts. Would be interesting to see if anyone has a good link for one as I’m too exhausted right now. It’s been a long day!
Controller board:
A quick search for the part numbers SHARP LQ045 and SHARP X1340KA doesn’t come up with anything.
I’m debating next steps. Ideally I want to try and get the screen working, and it’d seem the next logical step is to recap the screen itself, but.. is it sacrilegious to...
I’ve been able to successfully dismantle the screen of this machine. Interestingly I’m not the first person in here, but then being a prototype that’s hardly surprising. Here’s what I found:
Markings on the inside of the case:
Inverter:
Inverter ribbon
Screen:
Yeah that’s a good idea.
And yes of course. I’ll send some pics when I take the screen apart!
It is! But.. I am hoping to still get a full 550c with the original processor!
I suspect this may be an earlier prototype before the decided to make it black. But that’s just conjecture.
Also.. as the lower section is just that of a 540 it may well have just had a 68LC040. I guess we’ll never know!
And yeah it certainly was used as someone’s machine.. it’s full of...
