Adding 8 slots to my Compact Mac

This is super cool - I haven’t ever seen these before. Seems like a potentially interesting way to add external video to the SE/30 using readily available NuBus video cards.

Mac Classic horizontal video noise/distortion after re-cap

I haven’t seen that before but I would still be suspect of the analog board. Even though the caps don’t look like they are leaking I haven’t ever seen a Classic analog they did have a lot of leaking caps (esp the cluster of brown caps). Generally not obvious until the caps are removed.

    Apple iigs

Did you recap the monitor as well? If so do you have a cap list? I have been meaning to do mine forever but haven’t gotten around to it. It would be nice to confirm I have the caps on hand first though.

    Terrible IIsi

I have no advice as that machine seems done and the logic board seems to have minimal useful parts for future uses but…. That was one of the best write ups I have ever read. You need to keep a journal of this stuff and publish it!!

    GCC HyperDrive HELP

Also it looks like @JDW has an MMI-112 as he did a recap on it.

    GCC HyperDrive HELP

Not helpful for your situation, but I also have a strong affinity for old hard disk mechanisms. If you are able to share some pics and information regarding your collection at some point that would be awesome!

Macintosh 512K painted black - paint stripping options?

    I see a Fat Mac and I want it painted black… I think that’s a song?

    MacAsm MiniMorse Masochism

This is an awesome introduction to 68k assembly on the Mac (including the ToolBox). Looking forward to studying this! Thanks!

designing the ideal ATX power supply replacement for vintage Macs

I was actually a bit surprised at my measurement results. I run a number of Seasonic SSP-xxx-SUB PSUs (xxx - 250 or 300 W) after first finding them as a suitable replacement for SE/30s. In the SE/30 use-case I had typically measured very close to 5V but I may go back here again and check what...

    Classic shows 512 memory

I'm not sure what the difference is to the chip you found (it might just be the package quantity that mouser can order from the TI Datasheet (i.e. difference between D and DR part number). But the part I ordered (still available) is below. Good luck!

    Classic shows 512 memory

I will confirm the part number but before you replace did you check continuity from UH6 to everywhere it’s supposed to go? Schematics are available and I think a broken trace is probably most likely.

    Classic shows 512 memory

Actually not the exact same issue as I didn’t get a sad Mac, just a classic that wouldn’t show more than 512k of ram.

    Classic shows 512 memory

I had this exact same issue and posted my fix in this thread. https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/macintosh-classic-ram-problem.30001/#post-335979

SEthernet and SEthernet/30: A new take on PDS Ethernet

This is awesome! I don’t think SCSI Ethernet can touch the speed of a card based solution and SCSI Ethernet remains a bit more flaky (although that’s in comparison to the reliable drivers for presently available Ethernet cards- this project is a bit nascent to conclude there). I would be...

Quadra 700 Repair - Screwdriver Heatsink Removal Whoops!

Looks to be an E42K (65 um) if I understand how the coding works. See pic below. There is pretty good airflow - I'll snap a picture once the thermal glue has cured and it's back in my IIci with the heat sink but the CPU is pretty close to the air intake grills at the back off the PSU. I had...

Quadra 700 Repair - Screwdriver Heatsink Removal Whoops!

Well I am going to have to walk back what now looks like an outlandish claim regarding the temperatures my 68040 reached! I had recently rebuilt my Arduino based temperature sensor and, after the comments here, went back and realized I had connected my 5v into the Vin, instead of the 5v pin...

Quadra 700 Repair - Screwdriver Heatsink Removal Whoops!

Before I would have said fairly accurate as I had previously calibrated with ice water and boiling water, but I checked again last night and was getting inconsistent results with boiling water - I need to confirm why the calibration hasn't held and then I'll remeasure and update as required but...

Quadra 700 Repair - Screwdriver Heatsink Removal Whoops!

I recently added a Bolle Carrera040 to my IIci, using a 40mhz 68040 I bought from what I understand to be a reputable supplier on eBay. Everything worked fine but I was surprised at how hot the processor was to the touch. I ended up affixing a thermistor to the bottom of the processor, using...

Replacement ASC Chip (UE10) for SE30?

This! I just fixed an SE30 this weekend by replacing UE8 and UF8 and bodging a bad connection on pin 1 of UE8 (which I think was the actual issue). My SE30 had a clean looking motherboard which I recapped and while it worked I would get random crashes and address errors. After a while it...
