Sil3112 Card in a PowerBook Pismo

I just wanted to point out that I think the IDs are already correct -- the Vendor ID and Device ID in your picture are displayed in decimal for some reason. 4245 is 0x1095 and 12562 is 0x3112.

Reverse-engineering the Lapis ProColorServer 8 II

You are amazing. I never would have considered the possibility of patching an FPGA bitstream to fix an issue like this. Really nice work figuring it all out! Super duper impressive.

Do 32-pin, 400mil SOJ sockets still exist?

You’re welcome! I’m interested to see what you end up creating. Never heard of a socketed RAM SIMM before.

Do 32-pin, 400mil SOJ sockets still exist?

Looks like Connector People has them in stock. Yeah, Octopart definitely isn’t perfect but I’ve found it useful from time to time. As seen here it doesn’t have every supplier.

Do 32-pin, 400mil SOJ sockets still exist?

That's an interesting idea! Have you tried searching on Octopart? For example, unless I'm misunderstanding, that Farnell datasheet link is telling me that 400 mil 32-SOJ socket part numbers are 165-200005-02 and 165-200005-12. Looks like Quest Components has a bunch of the former. If it helps, I...

    ModTashtalk: lt0 driver for Linux

That is so awesome! I would be happy to review the code to the best of my knowledge level, and to try to provide any info I can about the submission process, although I will admit I've never submitted a brand new kernel driver before, only smaller patches to existing drivers.

Questions regarding Apple “Houdini I” DOS Compatibility Card from Quadra 610 (with 486 SX 25 CPU)

Thanks for providing the pinout differences! I decided to verify the resistors mentioned in the FAQ. R56 and R55 both have one end going to pin A15. R56 is populated, so R56 must be for hooking NMI to pin A15. R55 is not populated. Must be for hooking IGNNE to pin A15. R54 has one end going...

Questions regarding Apple “Houdini I” DOS Compatibility Card from Quadra 610 (with 486 SX 25 CPU)

Thanks for the advice on cleaning and care with changing the CPU! My experience mirrors yours. Windows 98 was able to install on the stock SX CPU if I bypassed the FPU check with a flag to setup, but it’s super duper slow. 95 seemed all right. Glad to help! If you end up trying out a new CPU...

Questions regarding Apple “Houdini I” DOS Compatibility Card from Quadra 610 (with 486 SX 25 CPU)

I also have one of the Houdini I cards and have been playing with it recently, but haven't gotten the courage to think about upgrading its CPU yet. However, I did do some initial research about it. It turns out that back in the '90s there was a FAQ with all kinds of tidbits about the card, but...

IIci 64MB memory upgrade issues. Do I have the wrong RAM?

Haha, that makes perfect sense. Glad you got something up and running either way!

IIci 64MB memory upgrade issues. Do I have the wrong RAM?

Those are nice-looking 2-chip SIMMs! Yeah, I'll bet one (or more) of those Memory Masters SIMMs is defective and shorting something on the address or data bus. That would perfectly explain why it won't even chime, because it would prevent the ROM from executing properly.

IIci 64MB memory upgrade issues. Do I have the wrong RAM?

Looking in more depth at your pictures, the chips on those new SIMMs are so freaking close together. I wouldn't be surprised if a set of adjacent chips has a pin (or multiple pins) touching each other. That could definitely cause issues because the address and data buses are shared with the ROM...

IIci 64MB memory upgrade issues. Do I have the wrong RAM?

Ahh, you don’t even get a startup chime? Hmmm, that makes me wonder if one of the new modules has a short circuit on it or something. Might be worth removing one at a time (yes I know the RAM test will fail and it won’t boot) to see if you can narrow it down to a single new RAM module that is...

IIci 64MB memory upgrade issues. Do I have the wrong RAM?

Hello! How long are you waiting before powering the machine off? With more RAM, the startup memory test takes quite a bit longer than you might think. I'd expect you'd at least hear the "chimes of death" eventually if there was something wrong with the RAM. That's one of the advantages of the...

Houdini II DOS compatibility card 486-66 with SB16 - software, hardware considerations on 68K

I can't speak for the Houdini II card, but the Houdini I card definitely pays attention to the sense code. It's fed into the 26-pin connector going to the card. I'd be shocked if the Houdini II behaved differently in that regard. If I boot up with DIP switches 145 (640x480@66.7Hz) the PC Setup...

Photo Request : 5500, 6500 and TAM Logic Board

Found them on my 5500's logic board. Luckily the components seem to be numbered fairly logically. They're all populated on the 5500. Large pictures attached... R165 is on the top between the edge connector and J16 R224 is on the bottom near U16, Phipli's small red circle R272 and R273 are right...

    Apple prototype ROM flasher utility

Yep -- @Phipli pointed this CD out to me a while back. I haven't looked at the older versions, but the newest one has a table entry that matches against the 7500, 8500, and 9500. I haven't gone in depth to figure out how it works. I believe it would be compatible with a ROM DIMM that has sixteen...

SCSI Terminators: Determining Passive vs Active

Yay! Thanks for confirming. It all makes sense. For what it's worth, pins 20, 22, 24, 28, and 30 are all GND on a random Quantum hard drive I just tested. Seems like there is a bit of varying info out there about some of those pins. They're also wired to GND on SCSI2SD, ZuluSCSI, etc.
