+1 I use a Sony Trinitron 17” CRT through a VGA switchbox to all my headless classic Macs, one of which is a IIsi. The thing can handle any resolution and refresh rate I throw at it.

I believe this is probably the case. The 400k drives have a “dummy” top head that just has a soft piece of material instead of a read/write head in order to provide counter pressure so the actual lower head can r/w properly. I imagine the DS drives need this counter pressure as well. If you...

Yeah, by doing the CMD+OPT+X+O you can boot into the OS without any disks at all. If that fails, you’ve got some other issue. If it succeeds, you should be able to access the HD and install a new OS or repair the existing one. Of course, you’ll need a working keyboard for that.

I just checked on my PB 1400 that runs 8.6 and @croissantking is correct, it’s an option in the Date and Time control panel. There’s a separate feature that also shows it in the Control Strip.

My comment about government workers was an intended joke about the apparent inherent need of government officials to spend money on useless and trivial things. Apparently I missed the mark. Thanks for your (unsolicited) suggestion, but I don’t “need” to do anything.

I was being facetious… Spending taxpayer money on frivolous things that don’t really serve a purpose. I get the need for privacy in some situations, but I can still see that screen just fine in the angle shot.

Honestly, it appears to me it’s being treated as a second monitor for some reason. I’m guessing all your icons and menu bar are showing up on the computer’s built-in video feed. I could well be wrong about that, but it was my first thought looking at that screen.

My Plus first did this around 25 years ago, and Byrd is correct…. Hitting the side was the magic cure. Does the original Mac suffer from this too? My 512k has never had this problem.

I’ve seen those strange screen covers before. What are they, and what is their purpose? Can’t be anti-glare; from pictures I’ve seen they are far more reflective than the actual screen.
