A/UX standalone program space is too small

So, like Borat would put it: "Great success!" I do now have a running A/UX 3.1.1 installation. And it was quite a lot simpler process than I originally thought. The only minor obstacle was how to write boot diskette with modern MBA, but after a bit of searching and two tries, it was a success...

A/UX standalone program space is too small

Thanks everybody for your input. Good advice there. I'll try the route to install it myself. The idea of installation has been somewhat intimidating due to almost absurd hardware requirements (this particular cdrom drive, that particular model etc), so I thought readymade image would be nice...

A/UX standalone program space is too small

This sounds doable. Could you maybe give a bit of advice how to proceed?

Did check that. It was on.

A/UX standalone program space is too small

So I replaced the memory down to 20 MB. But that did not help. The first error did change though to reflect smaller amount of memory. edit: 4 MB on the digital board + 16 MB.

A/UX standalone program space is too small

All, Based on instructions on https://github.com/unxmaal/aux_sdcard I downloaded the image and copied that onto a sd card. That went well. The issue arises when the os is booting and ”A/UX Startup” is being run. I include messages both as pics and as text for search engines. First error...

32 bit Clean roms for SE/30 and Tantalum capacitors.

One thing to keep in mind is the thickness of the new SIMM boards. The original board is quite remarkably thicker than newer boards, so those might not sit well without either rubberband or similar fastening the SIMM in position, or 3d-printed clips...

    Status of MintPPC?

Slightly off topic: If you're interested running linux on G4 or G5 there are options. There is a Debian 32-bit PPC net installer on http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/ports/snapshots/2024-02-25/ This of course requires that your NIC is recognised by the OS. Also there are at least Adelie linux...

Anybody got any thoughts on this? Do double sided SIMMs work in iMac G4?

Are various models of Nvidia 6200 all the same?

All, I would be interested to upgrade the current display adapter on my 450MHz cube. I've seen a guide (here, I guess) of how to take a XFX 6200 and burn new ROM onto it. The guide and on the Mac Elite site it says to use exactly one model "XFX Geforce 6200, PV-T44A-WANG 256MB DDR2". Those are...

    imac G4 800MHz memory oddity

All, I'm trying to increase the max memory of this iMac. Currently there is a PC-133 256MB SIMM on the internal slot and 512MB SO-DIMM on outer slot. The SIMM on the inside slot is currently single sided. All the other PC-133 SIMMs I do have are double sided, and those are NOT recognised at...

G4 cube and debian 12. No nic found

All, This is a 450MHz G4 cube model M7886. I’m trying to install debian 12 (netinstall cd) onto this, but the nic is not recognised, and thus installation fails when source would be mounted. Which nic is in this Mac? Any hints and ideas are welcome. Actually my only target is to have modern...

A Word of Warning about IPv6...Don't be me lol

Like Mark Twain said, reports of IPv4's death are a great exaggeration. IPv4 is not going away in anytime soon. Address space may be exhausted but the protocol itself is so deeply in modern internet that replacing it with IPv6 (or any other version or protocol) is not going to happen in the...

    Sorbet leopard vs Shuriken

All, What are the actual differences between those two? From the Macintosh garden: "Shuriken is the official follow-up project to Sorbet Leopard, as well as the direct successor to the AquaTrimcelerator / AquaSuite Mac OS X 10.4 utility packages, in addition to being the ultimate culmination in...

    shiva etherport se30 driver?

Thanks. Card itself is different, but seems like it uses the same -ish chip DP8390CN versus DP8390DN on mine. I'll have a go with that.

    shiva etherport se30 driver?

All, I wonder if a driver for my Shiva etherboard can be found? Apparently this has been sold under many manufacturer names. Edit: fixed title

    G5 DP 7.2 won't boot

Update. Finally got a new display adapter and that has solved the distorted picture issue. I have now run this computer three days, most of it of course hibernated or power save mode, what ever it is called. I have also disabled one cpu in open firmware, and that may have solved the issue of...

    G5 DP 7.2 won't boot

According to serial numbers lookup on everymac.com this is a powermac7,2. Thats where i got the info on the subject. 🙂 This is not liquid cooled, there are ordinary cooling blocks. I have some more information on this. It seems to boot when it is cold, ie been powered off overnight. I even...

    G5 DP 7.2 won't boot

I just got this one. Excitedly set it up and turned power on. Aaand it won't boot. Symptoms power led is lit when button is pressed, it goes off right after fans do rotate slowlishly. fans do rotate at full speed when the plastic cover is removed. Also a red led is lit on the logic board. Both...
