    Macintosh LC randomly lost color

If it hasn't been recapped yet, I'm surprised you haven't had any additional problems. LCs always need a recap. The most common issue is squealing from the speaker.

    Macintosh LC and PurpleRAM

Thought I'd mention that Bolle currently has 68040 LC accelerators for sale over here: https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/fs-25mhz-sonnet-presto-040-lc-lcii-cc-clones.49595/

    Fast! CompactFlash for Macintosh PDS/NuBus

Could the IIfx version get blinkin' lights instead? :D Or if doesn't already, a HDD led header?

    Fast! CompactFlash for Macintosh PDS/NuBus

So ... what would happen if you plugged an accelerator into the NuCF while in a IIfx PDS slot? Sparks? Or just crashing cuz of the clock signal?

SuperMac Spectrum 8 Series II - No that's not a serial port

Those beads are weird. A while back I was recapping a VCR, and all the through-hole caps had little fabric covers on the legs. I don't know what their original purpose was, but they wicked up the leaking electrolytic goo and kept it off the motherboard. So that was an unintended bonus...

Can the Macintosh Plus be modified to support 16MB RAM?

Some basic Googling seems to indicate that you can't use virtual memory without an MMU. Probably why even the simplest upgrade was also an accelerator with a 68010 or 68020 so they could add that MMU and utilize the full 16 MBs.

Can the Macintosh Plus be modified to support 16MB RAM?

You can with some clever tricks. A few accelerators bypassed the limit by using a combination of a RAM disk & virtual memory. The software was called Compact Virtual by Connectix. The extra RAM was first used to make a RAM disk, then a virtual memory implementation utilized the RAM disk for...

Macintosh Personal Color, a Fantasy 1986, 68000 Mac with a 4bpp Color Mode (Emulator)

@Snial I think this is really cool and could open up avenues for displays not normally used, like those tiny OLED displays. Or those 1:1 square ratio displays. That would be neat.

Any fun/interesting apps or games to show off Mac OS X 10.1?

@adespoton I don't know the name, unfortunately. Was trying to find it. I wanna say I downloaded it from somewhere.

Any fun/interesting apps or games to show off Mac OS X 10.1?

Might be on a MacAddict CD-ROM. I've tried different variations of searching for it on Google, but I can't find anything. I installed it on all our eMacs in one of the labs where I worked. :)

Using Magneto Optical drives on vintage 68k Macs

@jmacz Do you think the round hole versus the original eye shaped hole will make a difference?

Any fun/interesting apps or games to show off Mac OS X 10.1?

I don't remember what it was called or if you'll be able to find it, but there was an extension that had the "aqua" spill out of progress bars when they got to the end but didn't finish.

    Translating (Localizing) Application resources

ResCompare is useful for making a patch after you made the modification with ResEdit. It doesn't do resource editing on its own, it just compares two binaries. You compare the original unmodified binary with the binary you modified, then ResCompare shows you the differences in the resources...

    Translating (Localizing) Application resources

@slomacuser You could use ResCompare to create a patch, then you can share the patch program so others can localize their copy. :)

    Greaseweasel not reading 800k disks?

I looked inside my Applied Engineering floppy drive once because I was curious how they got an off-the-shelf floppy drive to read and write variable rate Mac disks. It looked like the Borg invaded and attached 30 millions wires, so I closed the case up and didn't open it again. :P

    Greaseweasel not reading 800k disks?

KyroFlux forums covers this as well. You'll want a specific drive of a specific era for best compatibility. The drives just weren't made for it, so some handle it better than others. It's why I got an AppleSauce so I don't have to fiddle with that stuff. Only drawback is I can't write back...

Macintosh Bus Master Nubus Card 820-0199-C, 077-8264

Thanks for this info. I had read many different explanations as to what it was used for, including "fixing" or "enabling" Bus Mastering on certain Mac II models to speed them up.

    Prince of Persia

@leonardcarvalho Here's some artwork I did a while back. I have a 24x36 poster and some floppy disk case inserts. You can buy 3.5" floppy cases still (often marketed as "calendar" cases.) Print out some of these inserts, then have a nice disk set even without a box. Poster Link Label Link
