Found the 50MHz bus switch on Alchemy (5400/6400)

This is the kind of deep-dive nerdery that makes me glad to be here. Nice work.

Quick iBook (clamshell) battery rebuild method

What a great idea. I've never disassmbled an iBook battery before - is the wiring straightforward with the new cells?

Tech by Androda Comm slot ethernet card

I acknowledge the the weirdness of the limited MAC addresses - I'm surprised overall at the reaction here. There's more concern for an imaginary future owner of my machine than the current owner. Before, I didn't have ethernet on my Mac, now I do. I'm gonna chalk that up as a win.

Tech by Androda Comm slot ethernet card

Maybe if you have a massive house and network with of tens of comm slot Macs with full PCI slots that need to be online simultaneously, you'll have an issue...but as this my only Mac that needs such a card I'm pleased with it!

Tech by Androda Comm slot ethernet card

Just wanted to say Androda's comm slot ethernet card is awesome. I ordered one and got it installed, and it was painless. Now my TAM is about as maxed-out as possible - G3/firewire/USB/ethernet. The original ones are unobtanium on ebay, but Androda's are for sale here...

    iMac G4 OS9 and iPod

You can actually use a 3rd-gen iPod on Mac OS 9, as long as it is on firmware 2.0.1. I've tried...many times to get a that firmware to install and format for Mac on a compact flash card in a 3G iPod, with no luck. (I can get it format with for windows on firmware 2.0.1, but that doesn't help...

    In search of... MacGourmet 2

Back in 2010 (14 years ago!) I purchased MacGourmet, which my wife has used for recipies since, upgrading along the way (though it's now discontinued). On a whim, I'd like to try using an iMac G4 as a recipe machine. It seems like MacGourmet-2.4.7.dmg is the filename... does anyone have a copy...

Airplay to Snow Leopard mac mini

I've got a Core 2 Duo running 10.6.8 I'm trying to get connected to my stereo. I was hoping to be able to use Airplay (heck, or Spotify Connect) from a phone or desktop to choose the Mac mini as the output, but I'm having trouble. I thought Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil Speakers would do the trick but...

Want to add a Newton to my collection.

Newtons are awesome. I still use mine nearly daily. @splorp above runs the still-running-after-25(?)-years Newtontalk mailing list...the newton faq should help get you up and running.

Hypothesis: Apple intended to launch the LC475/Q605 in late summer 1993

Man. This is the kind of internet sleuthing I can get behind.

Looking for GBMac version 1.3.1 - offering a 500$ reward (via paypal) to anyone who can archive/upload it

The Great Gazelle PCI Hack Thread, Part 2

I just wanted to say thanks to @cheesestraws for this hack! I purchased a tango 2.0 NIB on ebay awhile ago, but never installed it. I assumed it was the original version that worked on the TAM, as it said TAM on the box...but it didn't work with the original sonnet firmware patch. But with...

Announcing MacTasks - "To do" list for the classic Mac

Always seems a bit rude to ask for 'more' when there's free software, but any chance you can host on a non-https site so we can download direct to old Macs?

    Andy’s PowerBook Problem

I'm a big fan of the 2400. I don't know what sort of witchcraft went into those early lion batteries, but every single 2400 battery I've ever come across still holds a usable charge.

TAM SSD long wait on Happy Mac

I've got an odd question... ever since I installed an SSD (SATA SSD with an IDE adapter) in my TAM, booting takes a long time time. Sitting on the happy mac gray screen for roughly 2-3 minutes. Once up and running, everything is snappy. Swapping back in the HD (which was cloned) and the happy...

Need help with TAM cooling fan!

I've been incredibly pleased with the noctua fan I put in my color classic, I guess I will just try and get a 60mm noctua and see how it works. Worst case scenario I can leave the back off, the way my TAM sits the rear isn't visible.

Need help with TAM cooling fan!

Resurrecting an old (but not THAT old) thread, has anyone ever replaced the fan in a TAM? Mine works but is a little noisy, I'm assuming something modern would be quieter. It's an Elina Fan OPF6015L-12MB-2, but in searching for other 12v 60mm fans, none that I've seen have the odd...

Apple 5.25 Drive - IIe Card - PC floppies - Error

I disassembled the drive and cleaned the head (which did not appear dirty), and i got some "brand new" floppies, but I still get the same error trying to format these new floppies. I will need to learn how to calibrate the drive.
