    croissantking's conquests

That's a typical 840AV failure mode, you've probably got more bad traces somewhere.

MacDat has just been updated - Repair Portal is live! Capacitor reference, service source, knowledge base - all still there, just under the repair portal now. Much better organized. And of course, the schematic archive is also now up :) https://macdat.net/repair_portal.html

PB 100: Another victim of vinegar syndrome?

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806171221164.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt There is now a source for FSTN film. This will definitely work on a passive matrix grayscale LCD, and I’m told it should also work on passive color panels.

    PowerBook 5300c / 5300cs Restoration (Lid Fix)

It's trivial in comparison to replace the film if it's a TFT display. Passive Matrix is more complicated. Only recently did someone locate the right film again (they need a different type) and while I think it works on color passive displays, I'm not positive. So far it's only been verified on...

    PowerBook 5300c / 5300cs Restoration (Lid Fix)

So has been claimed by some… no clue if it’s true or not. Not a test I’d like to perform.

    PowerBook 5300c / 5300cs Restoration (Lid Fix)

    1. Keep it away from other laptops (I’ve heard it can spread, no idea if that’s true or not but best be safe) 2. Weigh whether it’s usable as-is or if it isnt 3. If not, choose whether you want to replace the film or just buy a new LCD 4. If it’s not an active matrix LCD, make sure you buy FSTN...

G3 Kanga Li-Ion battery - Safe to use?

Said batteries never made it to consumers. The recall was internal at Apple, only pre-production units were affected. Your Kanga battery should be perfectly safe. No more likely to light on fire than the battery in your modern smartphone. Do remove the internal PRAM battery though. These leak...

This is all I have. Unfortunately it is the Toshiba cable, which is different to the Sharp one.

Powerbook 1400 16mb ram module upgrade to 24mb

If it helps at all, here’s an image I have of two 24MB memory modules for the 1400. They are the ones on the right, ignore the left ones (took the photo originally to compare PB 1400 memory with WinBook FX memory as they're both very similar, and laptops released in 1996 built by Quanta) They...

    Coolest 68k Powerbooks to own?

The 180c LCD really is fantastic. There does seem to be a huge price spike for these on eBay currently though, despite them being pretty common. Hopefully they crash soon…

    Coolest 68k Powerbooks to own?

I haven't seen a single person in the past couple years with a tunnel vision-free 180. There are a good handful of unaffected 170s still, but the later grayscale panels seem to be getting them nearly 100% of the time now.

    Alright, good to confirm.

PowerBook 1400 series ROM and RAM tidbits

Sorry, got confused. The 1400 has 12MB on board IIRC. Maybe I’m wrong and it’s 8. Factory card brings it up to 16 (or 12 or 16 if I’m wrong and it’s 8MB onboard) And user cards take care of the other 48

Yes, it will report 12MB. I believe some were sold this way.

    PB 2400c ram

What I wonder when is: would it be possible to swap the lines back on the motherboard?

    PB 2400c ram

Only 32MB being recognized is consistent with what I’ve heard. I believe the pinout of the higher capacity 2400 modules is different.
