Centris 650 Not recognizing PDS PPC upgrade card 820-0562-A

I believe when the card is disabled there's no way to see it on the bus. As soon as you hear the standard Quadra/Centris beep, you know it's allowed the 68k to take control and loaded it's standard ROM. To do so on the pane you're looking at, it would need to have its DeclROM exposed and I...

NUBUSPAS16-DB :: A daughterboard hack to restore some functionality of a standalone MediaVision PAS16

This is awesome. For anyone a fan of Audio Science Review these charts are a fun comparison. How far we've come! Now I just want one even more after missing one go for $65 recently :(.

8.6 crashing on a Power PC upgraded Quadra?

Nope, that doesn't work any better. It displays the happy Mac, then goes to a grey screen, and hangs. I'm not convinced this works despite the internet saying it does...

8.6 crashing on a Power PC upgraded Quadra?

Yeah that's exactly what I'm using and it's wonderful. I can't, however, seem to get 9.1 to work, though it seems like theoretically it should. Not sure why...I'm gonna try changing the gusd's manually and see if that works any better. I also noticed 8.5+ removes the DAFB drivers, and the...

8.6 crashing on a Power PC upgraded Quadra?

Oh, I only know of a single version of the Sonnet enabler, are there multiple? This is specifically the "Sonnet Presto PPC" enabler.

8.6 crashing on a Power PC upgraded Quadra?

8.5 installer crashed once for me, but it's all been good since.

8.6 crashing on a Power PC upgraded Quadra?

After more trial-and-error, the answer appears to be to do a clean install of 8.6 instead of an upgrade.

Documentation about the 160/180 SPI Bus ?

It's not so slow, a PS2 driver was written to use it's memory card slot SPI to speak directly to SD cards: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/mx4sio-sio2sd-sd-card-adapter-and-sd-driver-for-the-ps2-sio2-interface.29210/ Does > 5MB/s which isn't bad at all, all things considered.

8.6 crashing on a Power PC upgraded Quadra?

I've been using the Sonnet 8.5 enabler to run 8.5 on my Power PC upgraded Quadra, and it seems to run well enough. So I figured I'd give 8.6 a try, but after running the upgrade installer and rebooting the machine just dies with an "illegal instruction" on boot. Quickly, and even with no...

PowerBook 1400 series ROM and RAM tidbits

Interesting, the 166MHz ROM is checksum 838C0831. I don't think that's a previously known dump, at least!

    PowerClip reproduction

You can duplicate it with a test clip and a fixed or variable oscillator, if you don't want to do any soldering. I have an example of how to do it with the spicy-o-clock, which gives you better tuning than the New Tech, here: https://eharmon.net/retro/macintosh/spicy-o-clip/ If you just want to...

New Awesome and Easy Way to Bump a Wombat to 40MHz

It was all working until recently. I'm gonna keep fiddling so we'll see.

New Awesome and Easy Way to Bump a Wombat to 40MHz

The only NuBus card I have is an Ethernet NB (original, A/ROSE card), and it works fine. So, different driver (I'm running the later, non-A/ROSE driver), but it's definitely not the whole software stack being hosed. If I switch to onboard ethernet it either hangs in a driver loop or deadlocks...

New Awesome and Easy Way to Bump a Wombat to 40MHz

There goes my theory on why my 800 seems to have broken onboard ethernet at stock clocks all of a sudden...sigh. I'm pretty sure they did fiddle with timings over the years, but I'm not sure they ever broke compatibility with stock machines. Certain drivers run worse for me overclocked than...

New Awesome and Easy Way to Bump a Wombat to 40MHz

Huh. So problems with ethernet after overclocking are more likely due to insufficient waits on the faster processor bus and not the ethernet controller itself running too fast? I always thought it was the latter, but the former makes sense.

New Awesome and Easy Way to Bump a Wombat to 40MHz

They do, yeah. And fitted with 60ns stock instead of 70 to match. It appears the theoretical stock 40MHz Wombat would have also used 60ns but with looser timings, based on the data in ROM. Yeah I figure it's a real bad idea. Fun to think about though. That's clever. And confirms just how bad...

New Awesome and Easy Way to Bump a Wombat to 40MHz

Wow, that's an incredible find. So 33 and 40MHz Wombats really are using the exact same board with identical components besides different jumper/resistor configurations and memory speeds. That's really curious! I wonder if overclocking the 20MHz clock source is more stable, as well. That said...

Information about a Radius FPD SE/30 video card

Are you just casually dropping a cool plasma display in that picture?? I've got a Color Pivot card I really need to reverse engineer. Similar connector but presumably normally has an HD15 on the other end.

https://www.rme-usa.com/hdspe-madi.html?sa=x I'm gonna guess you're probably getting a good deal, no matter the price. I'm pretty sure this would typically be for running something like an audio studio console or stage production.
