Reverse Engineering the Macintosh LC III Logicboard

A very royal LCIII! Looks awesome in purple! Really impressive all the reverse engineering that goes on in this hobby. Very cool stuff.

Picked up an Indigo iMac G3 from a sidewalk junk-pile!

Lucky trash find! I never see stuff like that here in Seattle! It's always just an old couch that's been sitting the rain for days. Yuck!

    Macintosh IIsi Retrobrite Method?

Immersion method works well. Be sure to pop out the rainbow apple logo before taking a dip in peroxide!

Potential game ports for B&W Macs

I've always thought that classic Spectrum games would look quite good on the Mac's 1-bit screen.

    Retrobrite indoors?

Peroxide and metal don't like each other, so it's always safe to remove any metal shielding before dipping your plastics into peroxide or you'll have rust to deal with.

Reverse Engineering the Macintosh LC Logicboard

A clear LC case would be very cool for sure. In your OP, you mentioned eventually working your way through the whole LC series. Curious if you plan to actually remake each model, or make some sort of "new hybrid LC" with features you like/want? Looking forward to your tests!

    Performa 630 compatible CD drive

Not sure which CF card adapter you are using, but I'm using this one in my Performa 638CD: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0026OYEEQ To make it fit, I designed a simple 3D print mount: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/e2Cub52P3B6-performa-630-hdd-mount/ In order to install everything (it is...

Let us know if Herb has any. I'd be in the market for one too. :) Thanks!

Reverse Engineering the Macintosh LC Logicboard

Wow, that was fast! Hopefully your first build won't have too many issues. :) I love the LC form factor as well and it's great to see these projects. Eagerly watching this. :)

    Performa 630 compatible CD drive

I have a 630 bumped to 40MHz and it's nice having a compact 040 machine with built-in CD and floppy with external SCSI support. With a CommSlotI Ethernet card, it's on the network too. Not the best computer back in the day, but a good retro 68k Mac in 2021!

    Performa 630 compatible CD drive

Yeah, any SCSI CD-ROM drive should work, though you will need that funky Apple adapter board that fits into the SCSI and power molex and adapts it for the 630's edge connector. You can probably buy those on eBay, but they might be pricey too, dunno. :( Here is a picture of one taken from a...

Drive gear needed for an AppleCD SC

Agreed, this would be a great resin candidate.

    Quadra/LC/Performa 630 Power Supply Re-cap

Interesting, C8 and C18 were the 2 offenders on my PSU. They had both leaked and the mask on the other side of the PCB was damaged.

    Quadra/LC/Performa 630 Power Supply Re-cap

Nice write-up! I just did my Performa 630 motherboard and power supply last weekend and then 40MHz mod today. It's a snappy 68k Mac running at 40MHz! Also surprised that Apple used Nichicon caps in these "cheap" computer power supplies, though a couple of the smaller ones had just started to...

Drive gear needed for an AppleCD SC

Well dang! Yeah, the LEDs on mine test good too. I wonder if this is a common failure. For now, I've stopped troubleshooting it and was going to start looking for another cheap CD SC to compare to.

Drive gear needed for an AppleCD SC

Yeah, I think the nozzle is a stock .4mm nozzle. Here is the STL if you want to try the .2mm nozzle.

Drive gear needed for an AppleCD SC

Well, on a somewhat related note, I've recapped my AppleCD SC, cleaned the lens, and lubricated everything, and it works PERFECTLY except that the power and activity LEDs do not work. There appears to be no voltages going to the LED headers on the SCSI board. ARGH! So something is messed up in...

Drive gear needed for an AppleCD SC

designed a test gear and am trying to print it now. my printer (Ender 3D Pro) is having a hard time printing such fine detail tho.

Drive gear needed for an AppleCD SC

Hey there -- I have an AppleCD SC torn to bits on my workbench right now that I'm recapping and restoring. The gears on mine work fine, but I could remove the gear and design/print a replacement. Can you take a picture of your drive and which gear this is? There are a bunch in there. :)
