    8100/80AV Unstable

Let us know how it goes - could be PSU as well? Maybe? I've heard many stories about unreliable 8100s, they seem to have some problems.

    Tutorial powerbook 1400 hinge fix

It’s farther up the shell and the plastic should be stronger there, the shim should also spread out the stress more I’d imagine. Who knows.

    Tutorial powerbook 1400 hinge fix

Thanks for the guide, I’ve got to do this to mine. What glue did you use to close the cracks? I’ve been trying a few different kinds but I’d like to know what other people use.

Does the PowerBook 500 series have a clock battery?

There’s a fix for that somewhere on Macintosh garden, someone will reply with what it’s called.

SE/30 parts of screen becoming black. Out of memory symptoms?

I’d stop using it until the capacitors have been replaced, having power flowing through the board with the leakage will accelerate the corrosion.

Does the PowerBook 500 series have a clock battery?

Look at the top case, that’s what the photo is showing, the area you showed in your picture is the battery bay.

    PowerBook 1400 Hinge Fix Shim

Good to hear that this worked for another person. Was yours cracking already?

SE/30 infinite boot loop or rattling floppy drive(?)

I’d think not, but I’m not positive. I’m not an expert in SCSI by any means.

What I've received as of late...

I'm not jumping the gun on any of my G4s yet, the current policy I've got is anything pre-1998 should be recapped "soon". Main things Apple that I've got to do are my PowerBook 1400c, and my PowerBook 150. Newer stuff has failed on my before though, I'm about 95% sure the analog board in my...

M5126 Macintosh Portable Sad Mac (0x14/0xCD36)

The Hybrid module is responsible for this - if you can't find 5V, it's probably that module at fault. That's also probably why your board won't boot, assuming no bad traces or improper repairs.

    Shattered LCs? Morbid curiosity.

ABS. It stands for something, google should help.

    Picked up nice powerbook 170

For the record: https://macdat.net/extras/powerbooklcdindex.html There’s a list of a bunch of LCD P/Ns. The other panel is a Toshiba, which is the one I have in mine. I’ve never seen a Sharp panel in person, but the Sharp display on my 180c at least looks very nice. The Sharp one in the 540c has...

    Picked up nice powerbook 170

Yes, with the proper LCD and cable. Inverter board should be the same between them.

SE/30 infinite boot loop or rattling floppy drive(?)

Resistor packs - likely to do with SCSI termination.

SE/30 parts of screen becoming black. Out of memory symptoms?

Send some photos of the areas in question - and that is indeed corrosion from leaking capacitors. Have you recapped it yet? If not, that’s your issue 100%, or at least the root cause of it. It has to be done.

SE/30 infinite boot loop or rattling floppy drive(?)

Yeah, those are pretty good. Have heard one single account of them leaking though, so you can’t trust them.

SE/30 infinite boot loop or rattling floppy drive(?)

Hey, that’s more than 0V. Give the poor guy some credit, it’s 30 years old!

SE/30 infinite boot loop or rattling floppy drive(?)

Hmm…. I wonder who made these. Has anyone seen one leak? Edit: guess I’ll have to update the page again with 1988-89 :)
