Mac SE/30: Looking for suggestions for next steps

I had this exact issue, but with a Mac Classic. Turned out to be a bad trace to pin 6 of the logic board molex plug (which corresponds to VIDOUT). Ran a small jumper wire to restore the connection and all was good.

Macintosh Color Display: How did I royally screw this up???

Wow, I missed this thread and am just reading it for the first time. I applaud your tenacity! The M1212 is one of my all-time favorite monitors, so I would feel the same about not giving up. Really interesitng obsrevation about the G and B drives still being alive, just not recieving any...

    Recreateing the Apple TechStep

If we are thinking of the same auction, that one sold for $725. I haven't seen anything in the $200 range.

Macintosh SE/30 logicboard recreation (thread revival)

Nice work! I'm sure that was a great feeling to see it boot after troubleshooting. Are you booting without the RTC chip installed? I thought that was necessary for proper startup, but maybe not?

    Macintosh IIsi Restoration

I loved reading through your restoration journey, and seeing all the attention to detail! I do hope you solve the issue with the white display. I am working on a IIsi as well, and am in the process of replacing caps. For the PSU, it looks like you used a 33uf 35V radial in place of the 56uF 35V...

Troubleshooting SE/30 garbled screen, no chime before and after recap

Yes, you can use an SE/30 board in an SE chassis (the pinout to the analog board is the same). I get a similar screen you have when I remove the ROM SIMM on my SE/30 board. Not saying that's your issue, but it might be a place to start. These boards can be tricky to troubleshoot!

Macintosh SE/30 logicboard recreation (thread revival)

Probably a dumb question but where are you finding your sockets/ports/headers? Are you using peconnectors.com? I am starting a build here soon but still need to do some ordering. I agree that although it might be more work up front, adding a socket would save lots of time in the event of a bad chip!

    Powerbook 180 No Boot

I had this exact behavior on my 180, and believe I traced it to a finicky ribbon cable connection between the display board and the CPU card. Wiggling at the exact right angle got me a floppy disk and flashing question mark. Interesting how these computers can't boot "headless" i.e. with no...

    Powerbook 520 and 520c Woes

I agree that the pricing on the power bricks is crazy. The fact that you can buy a laptop and charger for what people are asking for a single charger is wild. I have two 520 model laptops, and both of the LCDs are what I would consider to be poor. Contrast issues like crazy. I am thinking it's...

    Garrett's Finds

Yes, excited to see it has the maximum RAM preinstalled! And yes, the battery was removed immediately. For giggles I measured the voltage... 0.08, ha. I can absolutely start a restoration thread if there is interest. I have a few Mac IIs I'm working on, a few PB1XX machines, Color Classic, and...

    Garrett's Finds

Yesterday I picked up an extremely clean Mac Classic. It was apparently part of a computer lab, but doesn't look to have been used all that much. Pictures make it look a little yellow, but the case is not darkened hardly at all. Time to see what kind of surprises await inside... I...

How to connect iMac G3 Tray loader to wifi

I’ve used it on machines with 8.6 and it works just as well as it does 10.3, which is pretty handy.

How to connect iMac G3 Tray loader to wifi

I have one of these, but the earlier version should work as well, so long as it can connect to your home network!

How to connect iMac G3 Tray loader to wifi

I use an AirPort Express to bridge my WiFi 6 mesh network with the old Mac stuff. Just get the AirPort on the network and use one of the two RJ45 ports to connect to the Mac!

    Macintosh Classic Logic Board Revival

I wanted to give an update on the status of this board. Long story short, it's working again as it should. Turns out I failed to notice one corroded trace under some silkscreen. Oops. With that repair completed, I did a little conformal coating for protectant, and then soldered on a new battery...

Classic II w/ Classic Logic Board - Need help

Is this always the case? I have a classic II shell I use for testing classic boards. I have a classic I board and classic II board that both work fine with the shell, but one of the other classic I boards I have displays these retrace lines. I am not saying you're wrong, just thinking there may...

    Nightingale's finds

Excellent work, and nice write up! I absolutely agree that doing component-level repair is something that doesn't occur as often as it could. Every once in a while I look through an original Apple service manual for these beige Macs and chuckle. It seems that at the end of every troubleshooting...

    Macintosh Classic Logic Board Revival

If you would be so kind, that would be extremely helpful. Really pulling my hair out on this one! I am thankful it's only four layers though, that should simplify things (I hope). I might start removing chips, cleaning, and replacing tonight. RTC chip looks the worst, so maybe I'll start there.

    Macintosh Classic Logic Board Revival

Just checked it over - all is well there. It's a little hard to see with the silkscreening in that area but the connections are good. These board recreation photos from the Development forum have been super helpful. I only wish I knew how the inner layers were connected. That would tell me if I...
