• Updated 2023-07-12: Hello, Guest! Welcome back, and be sure to check out this follow-up post about our outage a week or so ago.

Macintosh Portable seems to be fully working, what shall I do to prevent some failures?

I just recapped a Mac Portable a few weeks ago.. I was expecting it to be a pretty hard job, but it was actually a lot easier than expected. The hardest part was the caps located between the hybrid board and the reset/interrupt buttons just because of the cramped location!
I'd like to being able to recap one day... Will definitely try to learn in the future.

Well, it could be some leakage, although I don't believe the through-holes in these usually leak, but I may be wrong. It's the surface-mounted trash can caps that go on these.

Also, unrelated, but I'm working on a capacitor reference library for my website, and I need good quality images of old mac motherboards. If you'd like to help me, I could really use a top-down view of the portable motherboard.
Do you want to receive the photo here as a file attached? Or via dm? Do you want various photos of the board or only one?

Your choice, either works. The most important photo is a top down view with all of the board visible. If you want to include others that's fine, but I may not end up using them.

And thank you so much!

Thanks for the answer. Since I don't literally know how to use a soldering iron I'll just find a good pal to do the trick here in Italy, do you think it's unsafe to use the laptop a few times before the recap? I'm just addicted to it...
Anyway, I've found that the trackball isn't working, the ball seems to be clean, what should I do? Thanks!
Where in Italy are you?

I read that you already received the pic you were looking for but I had taken these a couple of months ago with the explicit intent to share with the community, I just didn't know where to do so but here seems to be as good a place as any. These are made available to the community to use as they see fit as long as the purpose is for non-profit use.

I attempted to capture all of the PCB and component markings, nothing worse than getting a pic of something you need and you can't read what you needed.
