Concept: LC Microdrive III: a Rom for LC III users to boot without a hard drive for recovery purposes

As i was looking at my LC III today, I found out there’s some unused pads for a ROM of an unknown capacity, then I remembered the rominator ii and Macintosh classic which both had bootable systems in rom that were accessed by pressing or holding keys on startup. Would that be possible to make on the LC III with System 7.1, SCSIProbe, and the patches HDSC setup?

Great idea! Love it, you'll find same (wave solder) plugged thruholes for unimplemented ROM SIMM connector on machines right up through the Quadra_630. Quadra_605 and LC475 would be a great second step with Quadra_630 and its lesser LC offspring would be next.

AFAIK it would only require development of new images of the required OS, software and utility suite for available Rominators? If so, @dougg3 sent me a couple of his original design cards for testing. A volunteer who's got a standard programmer, the target machines and is great at putting together such images should join in here to get your project going. A card with EEPROMs on board is in need of a new DevLab base station.

yeah, it would be nice to make Microdrives for all the Macs that have extra pads for a ROM or an extra ROM slot
