I have a dead, TI 4600 mac edition, believe it suffered from the typical fate of having the crappy OEM fan fail and then cooked itself. No visible damage though, if you want it for reference or to steal parts off of, I'll be willing to let it go relatively cheap, I intended to try to fix it but...
I have to admit I haven't used the Zulu in the Quadra for long sessions, but I have used it a fair bit and have not been experiencing issues with my general use although I haven't sat down and used a bunch of software on it. I mostly do a lot of testing of various hardware so lots of changing...
I like to shave the little bit they snap over on the machine down a little so the tab doesn't have to flex as much when putting them on. And I never take them off once they are on.
My plan is to just hoard bezels for them. I might currently have the largest stash of bezels for that style, although someone is welcome to challenge my self appointed title.
New to me! Quite pleased bought it sold as is untested and it works!! $100 well spent. Now to spruce it up a little and fix that screen! Cosmetically it’s quite good, does need a battery I saw a rebuild thread around here somewhere may give that a go.
Yes! I love these displays, I have two of them that I use as well. They are gold, they work with almost everything, haven't run into anything yet that didn't work with them so far.
Yeah 1.2 generally works without any patching. However there isn't really anything you can do at this point besides take it back apart to see if you can spot an issue.
@absurd_engineering Any particular reason you want to use the zif carrier over a standalone card? 500mhz range cards are readily available, I assume you don't have any other compatible machines to test the dying zif carriers in?
Yeah I too have never owned a Quadra 800, although I've a considerable collection of bezels and I've not encountered any that don't fit my 8100. I do have a faceplate for an 8100 if you are willing to have a mismatched machine, but if it was me I'd just cut the plastic and make the bezel you...
Personal opinion here but the 575 is a way better machine than the CC, also far more rare. Dunno but I'd probably keep the 575 as a whole unit vs gutting it to upgrade a CC. Not sure why the trend to hack them up started, but has only increased the rarity of good 575 examples. Worth considering...
