I had the same issue with my Power Macintosh G3 Minitower (300 mhz, 768mb ram, Ati Radeon 7000 Mac edition 32mb vram). I disabled the sleep choice and now i am ok.

Well, it worked. Yesterday night before I turn off the computer, i erased the partition 1 and changed it from extended to standard. I installed again the international version of Mac OS 7.6 (the cd contains various languages and i installed the international English one). Now it boots normally...
