Figured I'd go ahead and start one of these threads myself, I am often picking up stuff and I don't think I know anyone personally who cares, the wifes eyes glaze over so I might as well post it here even if nobody reads it.

So couple wins on eBay from this morning, did I pay entirely waaaaay to much why yes I did, but where are you going to find them if not here?

Despite paying way to much, I'm still pretty excited to get these.

Also not mac related but I was walking by ewaste at work yesterday and happened to see this sad PC tossed in, haven't checked it out yet, but I think I'll at least get a good PSU or motherboard out of it for a cheap PC build, they usually decomission things at work due to age not due to failure so good chance it works fine. Looks like a decent little 1150 socket motherboard and a 430W thermaltake PSU.

Maybe this free parts machine helps make for the overpay on the bezels!

Yes pretty much impossible to find, I am going to be hanging onto these though unless I run into some sort of unforeseen financial trouble or something which I don’t anticipate. I threw a max bid on these right before they ended much higher than they went for and just hoped I wouldn’t end up that high. But I would have paid it… This is my favorite case style, I’ve never seen brand new bezels come up for sale ever.

Snagged this busted black ADB keyboard for a song on eBay last night it's in poor condition but will be good for parts and I think I have enough parts already to make another one once this comes in just requires a lot of work and patience, so a good score in any case. https://www.ebay.com/itm/115305866963

>The "F" key cap is missing

...No respect to that keyboard, hmm?
Yeah and several others are clearly just broken and resting in the right spots but not attached. Not a huge deal though I believe I have enough parts to assemble another good one once this one arrives. They are very very tricky to take apart and repair without further damage, but I've got a system and feel pretty confident now as well as a large stash of spare parts for this particular keyboard.

It's interesting how classy the black stuff looks. I hope between the two you can end up with a working one!
It really does change everything just the color change, even though the specs are exactly the same and there are zero performance improvements. I feel pretty confident, but we'll see removing the keys on these to fix them properly is super risky and even with my method I've broken one or two, and if that happens to be a key you only have one of then poof your stuck.

Welp might be a bit harder than I thought. Seller doesn’t know the meaning of good packing and also misrepresented just how bad it was as well. Still good for parts but not sure if I’ll be able to make an entire whole one from it. We’ll see.

We’ll just snagged something that I didn’t technically need.
But I really wanted it, I’ve been getting by with my Chinese knockoff tools that I’ve had for years but I started using the setup in the lab at my work and man is it so much nicer. So I splurged I’ve a bunch of desoldering work to do that I have been back burnering because it’s so tedious without a desoldering gun. I was looking at the hacko units for awhile for around 2-300 but after using the weller setup at work it got me thinking I should just upgrade my whole setup. Anyhow I went for it we’ll see how it is when it comes. I was sable to negotiate down to 650 on it which Is still pricey but I love how versatile this thing is. Doesn’t do hot air so still need my Chinese unit for that sadly.

Apologies for the not strictly mac related post but I am pretty excited about this thing.

That is SO awesome, I have an old Weller TC201 soldering iron that I picked up at a garage sale like 15 years ago and use for almost everything. They are definitely worth the money, so you are going to love using this. Congrats on picking the up!

I'm seriously so pumped about this, I can't wait for it to arrive. I've so much soldering backed up because I don't enjoy my current system anymore which has developed a short in the wire as well so I have to hold it just right for it to even stay heated. I'm pretty confident I'm going to have zero regrets with this upgrade.

I have also an old Weller.
Has been a workhorse for years, just got a new tip a couple of years ago, the most reliable tool i have had so far.

Nice! I'm super excited to have a name brand unit that I can actually find parts for, on my old setup it's just a knockoff chinese unit, but everytime I try to order tips they aren't compatible, and when I need to replace the iron it's hard to figure out what will work with it I'm on the second one that has developed a break in the wire over time. Kinda over it, plus the weller has so many nifty attachments for the same power supply, tweezers, hot air pencil etc etc.

And after a ridiculously long eBay saga I did indeed finally get it!

And let me just say it is worth every penny. The difference vs my cheap chinese set is just well immeasurable, also the de soldering vacuum tool is incredible. Super super happy with this purchase, already put it to use doing some projects nothing major yet, but I have loads of things in the queue waiting.

One of the first tests was a simple battery holder replacement, it was so quick I would say I had it swapped in less than two minutes.
Cameo appearance of @Siliconinsider amazing rainbow colored memory!

Did I need another project? No not in the slightest, I have far to many. Did I still snag this 1400c/166 that is non functional yep sure did. For $106 shipped to my door just had to take a crack at fixing it.

At what point do we admit we have a problem guys?

We don't, we just keep doing this to ourselves, over and over again. :D
:D Oh man my problem, is I see a project like this for cheap and think oh I can probably fix that easy so I grab it then it just goes in the pile that I only have time to work on very very very slowly. I've no business buying any more projects.
