Sourcing Apple Custom IC's

I had initially sourced the DIP28 package ones, yes, but UTSource lists the PLCC version as available, if you need one. I also made an adapter for PLCC to DIP, for the SE project, as a test.

Latest acquisitions!

GENUINE NoS 3430045A's (Sony SND Chip)

GENUINE NoS 3440042B's (RTC Chip for SE & SE/30's)

Refurbished, used 344-0062A's (SWIM Chip, Harris branded with 1990 Date Codes) - These look to be genuine, just the tops have been skimmed and re-printed - not a cheap job, these won't rub off with alcohol.

So if anyone needs one - ping me a DM,

Yeah, but their website says they have 33,951 of them in stock.

And it said the same three weeks ago when I tried to place my order for them.

There's very little relationship between their website and reality.

Still, I would like to get some of the Logic 53C80 chips, but grrrr.

IIRC Logic claims their chips are faster than the standard parts, I think that's what @trag wants to test

Exactly. Plus the Logic 53C80 on utsource's site is under $2 each, which is nice. And it's one of the parts for which their site is actually accurate. Or it was a few weeks ago.

https://www.utsource.net/itm/p/11998118.html

There's a couple of sentences in Logic's datasheet that claim exact compatibility but better performance.

Hi, I'm also looking for at least one, ideally two 3440042B RTC chips for the SE/30. I've sent a fresh inquiry to utsource but sounds like I'll get told the same as others that they are not available.

I'm based in Scotland but happy to cover international postage.

Many thanks,
Craig.

@quorten has firmware for replacing the SE / SE30 RTC with an ATTiny85.

Thanks for that Scott, very much appreciated. I've been looking out for a data sheet for the Apple RTC chip but could never find one. It certainly occurred to me that it should be possible to reverse engineer the chip but without knowing how it works that seemed difficult. Looks like most of the work has already been done! :)

Please let us know how that turns out. And how difficult/easy it ends up being. Challenges?

Thanks Kai, that's very useful. Even though the package in the data sheet is different to the 8 pin DIL on the SE & SE/30, the functionality appears to be the same. Nice!(y)

@Kai Robinson No "WOW" button, so I'm just going to type it out. WOW!

Any other Apple datasheets kicking around? I think the PCI Macs are a little later than you typically work on, but I'd love to find datasheets for Apple's Grand Central and Hammerhead chips. 343S1125 and 343S1190.
