mAcTX - ATX to Classic Macs

Just wanted to chime in about this: I have observed, atleast on the LC, that the motherboard uses separate digital/analog ground planes, and these aren't directly connected -- instead, the analog ground goes through the RF shield and the power supply case. I wonder if replacing the power supply entirely (and thus breaking that connection) could cause audio issues, as the audio system would be ungrounded.

In practice, though, there may be other ways the two grounds end up connected, such as the floppy drive, or whatever monitor is attached...

Just worth considering imo.

@Compgeke @blusnowkitty Not sure if I have completely missed the boat on these, but I'd love to buy one suitable for a Macintosh IIsi if that's still a possibility. Heck, may as well get the LC model as well :) Let me know, thanks! I'm in Australia btw.

Before the great forum crash of 2021, I think blusnowkitty had posted that this project was now discontinued.

A few others are currently working on a similar type of product.

I've actually got mAcTX II boards kicking around here, as well as all the components. The LC one's files are online but I still have the IIc stuff. They were kind of two separate projects under one name.

I really need to get around to assembling boards and/or kits. Unfortunately my job hit me hard with mandatory OT then overnights and left me with no time to do much of anything.

Thanks for your reply, completely understand how work can overtake any fun hobby stuff. Look forward to an update on the kits when you can, definitely interested in the two as mentioned :)

Do you know where they are posted? I know there where in the thread here before the crash but I haven't been able to find them elsewhere...

I only ask as I want to make a couple of red pcb's to go with my red repro LC boards :) (Otherwise I would just look to buy one form you once your ready)

@Compgeke Discovering this long after the fact, any chance of you making more, or sharing the design files with the community? (so we could make our own if you don't have the time/will to deal with this anymore).
I have comatose IIci & IIvi that could use a replacement power supply for testing, and I'm sure many others would appreciate being able to have an alternate solution to failing PSUs in IIcx/IIci/IIvi/IIIvx/...

I've actually got a batch of boards built up but I haven't got the brackets printed out for them. Got a 3D printer, messed up the Z axis sensor and haven't got much further on it.

I could send some boards out without brackets and provide an STL file for printing one, though. I've got the bracket files for the IIsi and IIcx/ci/Q700 here.

I have a 3D printer so I only need the STL to make the brackets :) However I'm in France, so shipping might be a problem. If that's not a deal-breaker, I could use at least two.

Since I felt like procrastinating all afternoon.... I did an update to the mAcTX LC. Assuming they work, I'll have a handful to pass around.

These are based on the version uploaded by @blueskykitty at https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/mactx-lc-boards.38912/

I've uploaded them to Github for easier tracking:

I'm still working on making sure the BOM is correct and that everything works correctly.

Is it still possible to get one of these for a Quadra 650?
These are not available to buy, if you read through the thread you'll find the project was abandoned/discontinued.

For a 650 PSU replacement, I would put an ATX PSU inside an existing 650 PSU, like this:

I've actually got ~10 assembled ones that'd fit the Q650 and probably 15 unassembled PCBs, but I just haven't had the time to really deal with them much. I started working on them when I was unemployed, and then once I'm back to work it's just no time left.

Would you be open to selling the unassembled ones?
