Hootswitch, a (work-in-progress) Apple Desktop Bus switch

plagiarists gonna plagiarise

plagiarism: an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author.

They appear to be in full compliance with the hardware and software licenses intentionally selected by @saybur, and credits to the original author are present on the JCM store page, the first line of the github repo's landing page, and on the devices themselves.

 calling this plagiarism is BS and you know it. We get it, you don't like joe or anyone associated at all with bluescsi, tinkerdifferent, having a youtube channel, whatever

Saybur has straight up said he has no interest in selling them, and has no issue with other people selling it, as is permitted by the license.
Joe has done a hardware fork of it, attributing to the orignal project, has his fork available on github, etc, following the license

This is all he has, Tobar. Don't take it away from him but telling the truth.

Heard my name being thrown around. I have direct permission from Saybur to build a derivative version of their product. I have tested their design, found bugs, and submitted them up the chain. I have collaborated with them on improvements in firmware. I have followed all licensing requirements.

I was even speaking to saybur ... checks watch ... yesterday about future improvements. I brought receipts.

My shop is open by scheduled appointment, should someone want to take a trip across the Atlantic and bring their concerns to me personally.

I am not affiliated with TinkerDifferent. I have an account there, sure. But only because it was ... checks notes again ... actually possible to get an account there unlike this place. Heck, I didn't even know this forum had finally corrected its years long broken signup system until today. I mean, I used to have an account and posts here. But those disappeared several unscheduled-hardware-mediated-resets of the forum ago.

Come by sometime. My husband makes authentic British scones and afternoon tea. We can have a discussion, in person.

I really wish we could all find a way to get along better. :-/

It seems like there should be more we have in common than what separates us, we all love vintage Macs! Can we try to see things from other prospectives? Agree to disagree and try to avoid snarky comments? Express our opinions without what could be perceived as malice?

I perceived incorrect statements being made about me. I wanted to correct those statements. I don't take things lying down, especially when someone believes they can say those things from the safety of their echo chamber.

Nazis had a different perspective. Should I try to see it their way, too?

My comments were directed at everyone, not sure why you would think they were directed at you vs. others. And I certainly I did not say there was anything wrong with expressing opinions, correcting the record as you see it, I just wish there wasn't snarkiness involved. I'll leave it to others self introspection to consider.

Sure sure. I didn't interpret your statement as directed at me.

A spade's a spade: if someone steps to and thinks I'm not going to hear about it and that I'm not going to call them out, they have made a mistake. That's how I roll. I wish I didn't have to engage in nastygrams, but I don't take it on the chin.

I'm normally silent about forum strife like this and maybe I should have stayed that way... I was in no way saying that anyone should not dispute inaccuracies, and/or offer opinions. In general I just wish the tone was more civil, less judgmental, less mean. Again this is a global statement, I'll leave it to forum members to individually consider if their posts may or may not fall into that category.

Agree with the sentiment from @Fizzbinn. For clarity, I have no problem with WOOTswitch; as others mentioned I don't sell hardware myself and having an option for those not able to DIY their own boards is, IMHO, a good thing.

In technical news, I'm slowly adding Bluetooth peripheral support into the firmware. By my read of the GPL this will require a switch to something that permits distribution with less-than-open library licenses (btstack) so I'm converting hootswitch over to the MPL2 license as part of the process. If you're interested in where things stand at the moment the devel branch on Github has the changes.

Thank you for the continued development on Wootswitch!
