is the graphical representation of the Command symbol found on Macintosh keyboards and in Macintosh System Software. On the Apple II, this key was represented by an open Apple symbol. But when Steve Jobs decreed that the Apple symbol was overused in the Macintosh's GUI, Susan Kare was given a very limited time to find a replacement. She chose the unique, symmetrical shape after seeing it on Swedish maps denoting a "place of interest" [1]—indeed, in Mac OS X's Character Palette, the symbol is called "place of interest sign".
