Memory for Quadra 700

Just think, having a Quadra 950 in 1992 would be like having a Mac Pro today… except with more slots, more expandability, and on-board SCSI!

Memory for Quadra 700

Postby pee-air » 26 Aug 2007, 22:53

I want to max out the RAM in my Quadra 700. I have already maxed out the VRAM. What I need is a cheap source for 4 16MB 30-pin non-parity SIMMs. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have tried Nexcomp, but at $24.95 per SIMM, that's going to cost me over $100 with shipping to get 64MB of RAM in an obsolete old Quadra 700. No thanks. There's gotta be something a little more realistic.

Good luck...16MB 30 pin SIMMs are as rare as hens teeth...unless you're very lucky, it will be very hard for you to find 'em cheap.

What you are looking for is always on sale here. The price has only recently increased from USD25 for 4x16MB 30-pin 60ns.

Not that many of the old quadras had 16MB SIMMs to begin with.

There was a guy selling a Quadra 950 with 256MB of RAM about two years ago. I had pondered purchasing it, but decided to pass. Looking back, I should have grabbed it, as he only wanted $20 for it.

Dang, you should've. that would have upped the RAM on 4 Quadra 700s. The Q950 can get by with 64MB from 16x4Mb SIMMs. :)

I stripped the memory for my 700 out of a IIci I found out for trash. The previous owner of the IIci upgraded the RAM, so my 700 is at maximum capacity now.

Things that might have been ... If the SIMMs were more-or-less coæval with the Quadra, you might have got your paws on 16 of those giant 32-chip cards. Drool. I thought I was Christmas when I was able to buy five such SIMMs from Gary-W to augment the frustrating three only that I already had.

I have a bag full of 8MB (maybe some 16MB) SIMM's that I have no use for.

I have a few 32MB SIMMS but I am keeping those.

Let me check and see if some of them will work in a Q700.

Q700 takes 30 pin SIMMs, not 72 pin.

I gotta tell ya', I've kicked my butt in hindsight with a couple of auctions and sales...with the cheap prices, it is usually worth paying shipping, just to see what you get.

If I grabbed everything that was free/cheap I would need a warehouse to hold it all. Sometimes you have to stick with getting what you need and then kick yourself later when you decide you want something that you could have had cheap years ago but is pricey now.

/me looks guiltily around the warehouse he now lives in and the piles of Macs between here and the door.
