Should be: Conquest for 128k. Was: Apple //c

Bit of a background of this conquest should be in place.

Some weeks ago, i randomly googled for add's "Macintosh 128k for sale" (but in finnish of cos) and found an add for "Macintosh 128k-1984-Steve Jobs + bag of disks" and phone number. It was dated some 6 months ago. I just sent an SMS and asked if it was still available. He replied it was and we agreed and time to go take a look of it for today, Sunday. So i got there, luckily it was on my way anyway and when i get there, he opened an bag of things. At once i notised, IT WAS NOT 128k. Ok, that was a huge turn down, i was really hoping for finding good 128k as they are getting really really difficult to find. Anyway, i took a look and of cos, it was Apple //c with monitor + image writer II etc. Ok, i thought, as i got there, why not test it (remind you, i have an Apple //c that needs RAM-replacement wich is on "process"). So we turned it on, nothing. Bummer. Then notised, he did not plug the extention to the wall... LOL. OK, after that, it did boot up.. an KARATEKA. There were original Karateka disk inside. So it worked.

We talked about it and turns out he really doesn't understant much about computers, less on older ones. So he was open for offers. I offered hime some decent money (didn't dare to ask it for free) and he gladly accepted. I might have got it for less.. So i got working Apple //c + powersupply + monitor + stand + image writer II + few original manuals + karateka disk and he said he have the bag of disks somewhere wich he promised to deliver when he finds it. Lots of games he said, let's hope also some OS disks even i have lots of them from previous conquest.

He gave also for free, some late 70's-early 80s TV-game. Strange brand (3 letters on the name), it's in basement for now. Tennis, pong etc on it. If it's not worth much, i'll give it to colleque who collects these.

I should be happy for getting working Apple //c, why then i am not? I got my hopes up for the Macintosh 128k.... the search continues!

Went thru some of the disks i got from the "large conquest" notised some apple-logos under re-labeled disks, so i peeled off the new labels and find some nice System disks under. Seems that they had just put localized stickers over the original disks (both are for Macintosh Plus)? Interesting.

Anyone with ROM upgrade chip? :b&w:

(Not completely sure if the one one sold in eBay works, asked the guy who sells them)

I'm glad they moved away from that fog color quickly. It sure looks nice when it's new, but it seems to fade worse than any of them in my experience.

Still a sweet conquest, especially with the accessories and such. Is the ImageWriter II the older fog model without the name printed on the front, or one of the later platinum ones? I once had the option between two mint looking ImageWriter IIs, one fog and one platinum. I went platinum as it was my first IW and it matched my other equipment better. I wish I went the other way since I rarely come across any fog ones, and when I have they're yellow.

For sure, it needs cleaning.. i plan on taking it on parts some of these days.

What comes to the printer, i think it was the first version. It's in the basement for time being, as i really do not have use for it right now. Some Apple laser printer would be nice, but i do lack the space...

The another //c i have, if i get it fixed (RAM problem) i'll sell it to a friend who's been interested in it.

Next, to find some more software for Apple II !

If you don't have it already, go grab Apple Disk Transfer (ADT Pro) and a serial to USB adapter to connect your Mac to your Apple II. This will allow you to write disks on the Apple II from image files stored on your Mac.

It won't help with your //c but if you have an Apple II with a cassette interface, ADT Pro also has the option to output data through the Mac's audio line out to the cassette interface in lieu of a serial cable.

It should work with any Apple II (][, ][+, IIe, //c, IIgs) or Apple /// with a serial or cassette interface. In other words, it should be what you need to move disk images from your Mac to your Apple //c's floppy disk drive.

You can get a generic USB to 9-pin serial adapter for about USD $20 around here. Here's one at Amazon for $5 + shipping.

Thanks for the tip again!

I asked about the postage, they'll refund the difference to you. For some reason paypal assumes some other more expensive rate. So let's order an cable then :)
