Postby alvin777 » 18 Aug 2007, 00:07

Hi. Is the floppy drive of the LC 575 compatible with Mac SE or Color Classic (coz' have video but their floppies don't function well. The LC 575 does not have video)?

Electrically, yes. The cable is exactly the same and it'll just plug straight in. (unless the SE is an original 800k SE)

Physically, no. The Colour Classic and SE's floppy drive slots in the front of the case are not the same, as they are designed for the older auto-inject floppy drives used with those machines, and thus the slots will not line up. You'll have to either hack the case or run the cable out the side of the Mac and have the drive sit next to the Mac.

It will function but may not align with the slot properly, as mentioned. Even if you do get it to fit, you will probably need to poke disks in with a pencil or something due to the lack of the auto-inject system in the 575's drive. Hence why later Macs (with manual-inject drives) have a little "mouth" in the middle of the floppy drive slot and the earlier Macs don't.
