Macintosh IIsi Restoration

A while back I was given a Macintosh IIsi with a few issues. Not only was there Uneven Yellowing on the case, but upon powering the machine up, it would show a Solid Colored Screen and would not load the Operating System. This was probably due to Leaking Capacitors (Which I cleaned and Removed when I recieved the Computer).

I started by cleaning the case and then Retr0brighting it. I made the recipe that JDW made and applied it to the yellowed areas. Even though this was my first time using it, I think that it turned out quite well.

With the Case taken care of, I decided to clean the Motherboard (Again). This time I cleaned in a specific area; Under the Hard Drive Ribbon where Capacitor Damage appeared to be greatest.

I then connected my Peripherals and crossed my fingers.

When I turned it on, I was thrilled to see the machine loading the OS and Desktop. It works*!

*: Even though the Mac IIsi Loads the OS and is now usable, I am still having a few issues. Upon Startup, I still get Colors but the Machine is able to push through and Boot Up. The Machine also freezes from time to time. What ways can these problems be fixed? I would imagine that I need to clean the MoBo some more but I think that a chip under the HD Ribbon Cable is Damaged (The Connectors have turned a greenish color from the Leaky Capacitors) Should I reclean, replace or create a better connection with wires?

I've found the best way to clean these boards to be a dishwasher. Pull out the RAM/ROM(if in chip form) and basically any other item that can be removed and run it through the dishwasher with a tad of handsoap(or any non-oxy/variant thereof). Then, let it dry for a minimum two days(week=safer), and see how it works. Also, this gives the benefit of allowing you to see which capacitors are still leaking.(Though, it'll probably take a while for the culprits to make a large-enough-to-be-visible mess)

Do you have any RAM SIMMs installed?

If not, never mind, but if you do, take them out and try booting with just the MoBo's 1 MB of soldered in RAM ICs to see if it just might be memory related.

It's just a hunch, but since the IIsi inherited such a horrilbe System RAM based Video Kluge from the IIci, you never know what might be going wrong!

Which OS are you booting, BTW? Use a RAM test utility, that's OS appropriate, to beat the snot outta' that measly stock 1 MB of Memory to see if you get any errors.
