Fixing SuperClock?

Postby protocol7 » 12 May 2011, 12:44

I've been spending some quality time with my LC III lately and with 7.1 in particular. I added SuperClock early on but there's one thing about it that I find a bit annoying: it draws itself 1 pixel lower than the rest of the system menu. And on a 21" screen it's very noticeable. You can see it here:

I've had a look through it with ResEdit but I can't figure out what resource (if any) sets the on-screen position. Anyone have any ideas?

P.S: If you're wondering about the desktop pattern in that pic, I replaced the "General Controls" control panel with the one from 7.1P and ResEdit-ed in some better patterns from 7.6 and 8.6.

You'd probably have to disassemble it.

Change the font - but seriously, one pixel lower puts you off?

Well, it's not that off-putting, but if it was relatively easy to fix I'd do it. It would be nice to have it looking right. However, decompiling and all that sorta stuff is out of my league.

One pixel might not sound like much, but I'm running 640x480 on a 21" screen. That makes for rather large pixels.

Just thought someone might have noticed this too and knew of a fix.

You could try to use a more recent version of the stock Apple control panel for date and time (like from Mac OS 7.6 or probably 8.1). It resembles several of the SuperClock features and should run with System 7.1 as well. The font should appear accurately aligned in the menu bar.

Instead of the 12 point Chicago I prefer a 9 point Helvetica for the clock, however (PowerBook user). With a screen 640 pixel wide this setting saves some space for other menus. You probably might even consider to memorize the day of the week ;-)
Cheers
