All that power in a laptop? Never…

iBook G4 Airport problem

Hi

I wanted to introduce my parents to Apple, so i went looking for a last generation iBook G4.
I found an iBook G4 (mid 2005) 1,33Ghz

It came with Mac OS X Leopard, but when surfing on the net using Airport all i got was Kernel Panics. A quick search reveiled there were some construction faults. Apparently this model iBook sufferd a bad connection Airport-Motherboard.

To check this problem i downgraded the iBook to Mac os X Tiger. Updated to 10.4.11
Now it is running this smoothly and the Kernel Panics seem to have dissapeared. But since it's a hardware error i expect them to reappear.

I found several solutions to this problem, from putting some paper between the card and the connection to resoldering the connections.

Anyone having experience with it?

kind regards
Dieter

I went for the paper solution, and it has been running a week without issues!

The paper solution might not be elegant, it's easy to perform. (takes about 40 min)
I hope it keeps on working.
