UTF-8 with MacOS 9

Postby avw » 03 Jun 2010, 05:34

I am looking for applications that can handle UTF-8 at my MacOS 9 machine. There are tons of text editors which are able to produce UTF-16 but I only found two applications for UTF-8.
1) SUA a nice freeware tool, but complicated (no drag & drop etc.)
2) BBEdit 6 (maybe 7 as well, but even if they sell it anymore - it dissapeared from their webpage - it is about $150)

So come on and tell me which applications I didn´t find at the web! What are the names of those which can do UTF-8 at our beloved OS 9?

Well, all I could find was a list of apps here.

I also found a site that talks about UTF-8 on Mac OS and converters and stuff.

Oh wait! I think I found something! Click here to check out iText! (Site says it supports importing and exporting of UTF-8 & UTF-16.)
Macs I own: Classic II, LCIII, PowerMac 6100 w/ NewerTech G3 250Mhz CPU, PowerMacintosh G3, PowerMac G4 "Sawtooth", PowerBook 5300, PowerBook 3400, PowerBook G3 "Lombard", PowerBook G4 Titanium.

Of course I found the link to Alan Wood first. That´s where I got the hint to SUA from. It seems that Pepper would be the tool of choice, but it is nowhere to find at the whole net.

The 2nd link looks good, thanks. And about iText, I am a little bit confused what is the difference to LightWayText, as the 2nd seems to support UTF-8. I´ll give it a try. But anyway I am wondering if there is no other freeware for UTF-8 at MacOS 9?
