A/UX, BSD, Linux distros, that sort of thing. Basically any form of *NIX that will run on 68k/PPC Macs.

GopherVR

Those of you familiar with my gopher server will have met GopherVR before, but for those who don't know it, there is a very nice Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GopherVR Essentially, it is a "virtual reality" interface to Gopherspace.

Last month I managed to port the old GopherVR X11 version to OS X. There is a classic MacOS version that predates that, and you can get it from gopher://gopher.floodgap.com/1/clients/mac (it will run in Classic). However, with the X11 version, we now actually have source code to build upon, so this month is the 0.4 release which is actually useable -- the original one assumed graphics power from 1995, and on modern Macs ran way too fast to be controllable. On my quad 2.5GHz G5 with an nVidia 7800GT, at 1920x1080, it runs at a ripping 60fps+. Even my wimpy Intel mini manages 30fps at the same resolution, even with its anaemic GMA graphics, and Mac Pros run even faster. You can of course run it in a smaller window, but it's more fun this way :)

This version corrects the speed and locks it to frame rate, improves controls considerably, fixes a number of bugs and includes a Dock launcher to integrate with OS X (even though it is an X11.app application). You must install OpenMotif, which is free. It is Universal and runs on 10.4-10.6. You can download source, naturally.

Now that's done, so I can get back to work on Classilla. :-D
