anyone use(d) it? I have managed to take a handheld baby step hello world example and failed to get it working on a emulator

Yep, I use it (mostly for the assembler at the end of the toolchain). There's extensive doc available, but there are some basic things that might be escaping your notice - like the startup address or target OS (ProDOS vs. DOS). See this post, for example. Also see this post for a good "Hello, World!" tutorial.

well searching the group, there was 1 thread that nailed the exact same problem in a windows vista 64 install, and I am trying it in xp 64, tho no real solutions for the real problem were nailed down, I needed to reinstall ubuntu anyway
