old scanners make really good overhead lamps

If it were a lpt port one id do that in a second, but a scsi scanner is just fast enough to be quite useful, ... so I hope you can dig up the software

I'll see what I can do. I can pop it on my server, but speeds probably wont be the greatest (and I don't do that free/rapidshare.de garbage either)..... I could always mail a copy of the CD.

I have found divshare to be decent actually. If you are willing to put it on a KDX server I think my friend has one up atm.

Software for the Umax scanners was VistaScan and MagicScan, IIRC. So if that 1200S disk had one or both of those on it, then it will probably work with the 610S. And the 600S for that matter.

The drivers used to still be available on the UK's Umax site.

Ah, here we go. The UK site linked me to Deutschland (Germany), where I found this very nice page:

http://www.umax.de/support/treiber.htm

Note that if you enter the Powerlook 2000 as your scanner you'll be offered the MagicScan 4.5 software, which I've heard is nicer than VistaScan and compatible with the lower end SCSI scanners.

It also appears that one may order a CD with all their drivers on it?

The disc that I imaged has VistaScan.

I have the same scanner model. I think I may have the software somewhere. Last time I needed it the UMAX web site actually had the download for it, too bad it looks like they don't anymore. :(

The link I posted above has the software for the Umax 610S, as well as many other Umax scanners.

Anybody else had the glass fall out of their Umax scanner? Mine did recently. And when I went to use my backup, the glass fell out of that one too. Am now experimenting with 3M double sided adhesive tape...
