Package install

Postby Gil » 19 Sep 2009, 16:46

As you may have seen in the Conquests forum, I just got an eMate 300, which is my first Newton. I ask that you please bare with me, as I am a total Newton noob. :)

I found some packages at the UNNA site that gives Internet capability to Newton OS 2.1. Well, I downloaded the necessary packages, and I tried to get them on the Newton, via Newton Connection Utilities. However, when I go to select the packages from the dialog box in Newton Connection Utilities, it doesn't see any. :-/

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? All of the packages have the .pkg extension. :-/

Thanks in advance!

You probably need the packager or packtype utility, for which Google is your friend. Something happens in the download these days, even on MacOS9, which corrupts the file.

Very simple, drag and drop fix. All will be well.

The name of the application you want is called, with the quote marks ".pkg"->NCU just as stated above, its drag and drop and works flawlessly. Its easily one of the greatest things for Newton. It runs under classic Mac OS. Its only 32k in size and I can PM it to you if you like.

The .pkg"->ncu is new to me. I have used Packtype (and occasionally Packager) for years, but had never heard of the other utility. Thanks for the lead.
