Yes.

It was started at 1 cent. I always start them at 1 cent. It lets people set their own fair price. In this case it was over $100.

Thats alot of cash for a system I got free not that long ago. I wonder if somebody wanted to rip out the logic board for a Color Classic II or if they realy wanted the AIO intact.

Prices on ebay are all over the place, I do wonder if the old 68K are actually creaping up in value now that there are not that many free ones floating around like there used to be.

The first bidder paid. He is in France but is coming to Houston next month for business and will bring it back with him on the plane. So there is free shipping so he saves a little money that way. He wants it whole (not just for the motherboard).

Someone else bid $100 exactly and lost to the Frenchman. I sent him a second chance offer since I have many more LC 550s and he accepted the offer! The second buyer is in the UK and paid $168 for shipping. So the Brit paid $268 for an LC 550! I assume he wants it whole too since he paid full rate shipping from US to UK.

My first LC 550 sold in 12 hours for buy-it-now $39. Maybe these things do have value - even more value than the LC 575 that has a CD-ROM drive and an 040.

I'm starting another auction tomorrow for LC 550 so we'll see! But I've taken in over $240 for just three little LC 550s - this is hot!

I saw that one...crazy...

Funny, cause around the same time (last week), I bought a Performa 578 on there for only $1, no other bidders. Local pickup, too, so now shipping charges.
My Macs:
SE (dual 800k), SE SuperDrive, LC, LC III, Performa 578, 6200, 7200, 9500, 6400, PB 1400c, 5500, PB 3400c, G3 MT, G4 Yikes, iMac G3 Early 2001, Mac Mini 2011.

Was shipping even offered on the 578? A lot of people won't even ship them - I am one of the few who do. Not having shipping limits the market.

Yeah, shipping was available. I think it was a flat rate of $35. I'm excited, as i've never owned a 5xx before. One of the first computers i ever used.

I really like the 5xx. It's a lot better than the Color Classic that everyone lusts for. Maybe people like it because it kind of looks like a big Color Classic?

Could be they used one in school and now want one for old times sake. I have no idea what I am going to use my 550 for, I was thinking of old games since it is kind of usefull for that.

I'm happy (and more than a little flabbergasted) for you! I had no idea that there was such a market for these. Now I almost feel bad that I passed up a chance for about a dozen of these a couple of years ago. Could've financed a MacBook with the proceeds...

It may be because I'll ship internationally which is kind of a hassle, since forms have to be filed and stuff and I have to go stand in the post office. So anyone else selling older Macs only ships to the US and maybe they're scarce in Europe.

The logic boards are pretty nice for colour classic upgrades, but the 575 is superior in every way besides.

But then again, emotional attachment to a certain thing/model is priceless isn't it?

Personally, I reckon that the LC550 is more interesting to those outside the USA because it was not sold as widely internationally.

I certainly want one to round out my collection, but shipping costs have put me off for a long time.

I never knew there was an LC 550, only the Performa 550.

Also, on the topic of these machines - I remember reading in MacAddict 10 years ago about a Performa 560, though I've never heard of one since. Did it exist?

Yes, there was a 560. It was exactly the same as 550, but introduces 2 months later.
From MacTracker
"The LC 550 replaced the LC 520 in February 1994. It was identical to the 520, but had a 33 MHz 68030 processor. All other specs are the same. It sold for $1,200 U.S. and was also sold as the Performa 550, and 560."

Actually, the reason the 550 in particular is in demand is for its logic board. You can easily put one in a Colour Classic (the CCII used almost the same board if not the same board as the 550) and a lot of folks who didn't get the 550 in their country would want to do that (as would people who did have 550s in their countries).

Otherwise, it's just an AIO Mac LCIII+.

Why bother with the 550 in a Color Classic when the 575 has an '040? I don't buy that argument...

Peace,

Wasn't the 575 the one that needed to be modified somehow to get into a CC? Or am I thinking the PowerPC boards?

I'll have to look it up...but not tonight, I've got to get to bed early!

Nope, it's the 580, 630 or any PPC boards that need the "Takky" upgrade. 57x boards are the same size as the original CC ones.

heh. I've gotten sniped on a couple of your auctions, Mike. (Nothing recently, though, and there's no way I'd pay $100 for one of those, even with free shipping! Not that I don't want one, but that price is a bit high for my tastes.
