Not really 68k Macs, but certainly Vintage!

Joystick help

Postby olePigeon » 14 Mar 2011, 18:40

The IIgs I bought came with a nifty game controller. It's a WICO controller with rubber grip over the whole thing. It's actually very nice.

Only problem is that it requires being plugged into the game port on the motherboard. I don't see how to do this without keeping the lid off. The cable won't fit through any of the expansion slot ports.

Am I missing something obvious?

Really? You can't lay the 16-pin DIP plug sideways and (slowly) work it through one of the openings?

Nope, won't fit.

However, I just threw together this cable and I'm completely beside myself. It looks so cool and it works perfectly, all from miscellaneous parts from the computer recycler. :)

The official olePigeon brand internal to external game port cable. :D Screws right into where the serial port would normally go. Pin 1 is the rounded corner so I know which direction to plug the joystick in. I was playing Conan and Up 'n Down today. Pretty fun at 2x the speed I'm normally used to. Montezuma's Revenge is extremely difficult at 2x speed. Very fun.
