PowerBook 530/540 Recell & Boot issues...

Postby danpoarch » 03 Aug 2012, 20:07

I have a beat-up 540c that come out of the dump and a working 520 that I just bought off of eBay to get an extra battery and a power adapter. I'm hoping to turn them into a working 540.

First Issue:
As far as a recell, I've read this thread a few times and I'm wondering if there's any follow-up opinions:

I have a set of 8 Enercell NiMH 2500 mAh AA's that I got cheap at Radio Shack. Maybe not ideal batteries but they were %50 off. My plan is to recell one battery with these and then pick up some tabbed 4/5 A batteries to do the second battery and see what happens. Not trying to make a big deal out of comparing and contrasting them, just interested to learn/do a recell and see if there's much of a difference in the results. I will report back here at some point.

Second Issue:
My 540 from the dump doesn't boot. I've taken it apart and re-seated everything (before I had the adapter, may need to do it again). It get's power, HD clicks on, but doesn't chime and the green light doesn't come on. I've left in plugged in for a day or two and I still get the same result. Wondering if anyone has any immediate response to this scenario. If it never boots, is the MOBO the exact same between a 520 and a 540? I know the daughter card is cross-compatible, just wondering if I part the 520 MOBO into the 540 if I'll have a true 540.
