Far out, have I broken a 68kmla rule here?
I just thought that other members might be interested in such a rare Powerbook.
I did not realise the seller is shipping internationally.
Perhaps there should be a rule that forbids ebay postings as mentioned in another thread: http://68kmla.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18005
Might help reduce grr-ing and poking of tongue ...

For now, this can stay open, however we will be monitoring it for any negative/defamatory comments in regards to the seller or the price.

There's not a rule against posting links to eBay auctions. I kind of like seeing what's on the eBays. There is a rule against commentary on the price.

While there are certainly some items listed on eBay/Craigslist/etc that our membership would find interesting, we will not tolerate posts that insult a seller for the price they have decided to sell the item at or the contents of their listing. While we don't mind users questioning the price of an item posted, it is the seller's prerogative to choose the price they sell their item for, and not knowing the exact value or specifications of old computer equipment certainly doesn't make them an "idiot". Posts linking to an auction with the sole purpose of questioning the price or listing details will be locked or removed. Not only can they can encourage people to overstep the fine line between fairly questioning the price and flaming the seller, they lead to a generally bad atmosphere on the forums.

That 550 looks pretty nice, kind of a shame about the hinge clutch covers though, but as long as the hinges actually work.

Clutch covers are no big deal, the covers from any other 500 series will fit, pretty easy to get ahold of in comparison to the parts exclusive to the 550c.

Either way...quite a nice machine. With the RAM maxed, a PCMCIA card cage, and a decent size HDD (or CompactFlash card) behind a SCSI -> IDE adapter, a 550c would be quite a ride.

AVOIDING talking about the price ...

I was very interested in this unit, but held myself back from bidding in the end as it wasn't a good example. It didn't have the black Japanese keyboard, the missing black clutch cover would be hard to replace, and it looked really worn. It would always look like a rare, but hobbled together unit. So at least I can continue to save up for a shed now :D :D

You'd probably be able to emulate the black clutch covers by using retr0brite on the 5x0 clutch covers (to strip the plastic down just a tiny bit) and then dyeing black. >_>

My general policy regarding forum posts pointing out eBay auctions is that if I want to bid, I'll confer with the other forum users to see if anyone else is going to bid, too. That way the one who is willing to pay the most can get it without actually getting in a bidding war with another forum user.
