Ok soldiers. I am now working on a text-only prototype that will be optimized for 640*480 screen resolutions. Maybe when I get more time (or some help from the rest of you!) we can get a version optimized for black and white 512*384 screens...the adress for this new text-only version will be posted shortly...

hehe, my dad's workplace used to be Mac only, but they went dark side.

I'm in the process of grabbing more of the orphaned guys, like a portrait display and an ImageWriter II. Right now I have liberated...

A Mac SE FDHD with 4 MB RAM and a 20MB HD, as well as a 1987 Apple CD-SC!

heh, yeah, check out "The Apple Chain Story" over there in Anything Apple...its about 27 pages now

there is now a "gateway page" for users to navigate to whatever version of the site they want (text, or image). the text version prototype is there as is the image one, but it is being revised and the new image one will be up tomorrow...

I've started writing some content for the site, I reckjon that we need tons of stats for each old 68K and maybe even some early powermacs.

What the content should have:
-EVERY stat on all old macs: I scour a few programs/sites and books.
-DETAILED instructions on opening up old macs, with pictures too. The info on this is lacking from the net right now.
-Speed Tests in Speedometer 4.
-The number of them owned by recruits. (When you join or get a new mac, the total is updated)
-Info, links, what to use them for, hacks, etc.

There is this program called MacTracker that has info about every Mac computer made. I don't where I got it, but you can get it at Version Tracker.
http://www.versiontracker.com/mp/new_search.m?productDB=mac&mo de=Quick&OS_Filter=MacOS&search=MacTracker&x=4&y=8

This looks like it would save you alot of time looking up each mac.

I need to learn how to spell.

Lists of programmes to be used on each system, categorized by type, with reviews/suggestions by Liberators as to their use, problems, and good aspects.

A page of links to OTHER sites that have the info 68k Mac Liberators and Users use or would find helpful. I would suggest jagshouse.com and lowendmac.com as I have found them of GREAT help with getting some of my older Macs working.

leftenant jhota, reporting for duty, sor!

anyway, current 68ks:
Plus (Beige), SE, Classic II, Color Classic, IIcx, IIci, IIsi (x2), IIfx, MacTV, Quadra 650, Duo 230, Duo 280.

there's another on the way, it's either a SE or SE/30. i don't know which.

the MacTV, Q650, and Duo 280 are "everyday" computers.

also have: several boxes of vintage hardware, various and sundry books, magazines and manuals. (including, but not limited to: MacUser, Macworld and MacWeek back issues, covering the early to mid 90's; the famous Matt Groening "Life In Hell" Apple sales brochure, some AppleFacts booklets, etc.)

It is nice to see so many people loving their old Macs.

I run a high school publications lab and take donations all the time. We have a fairly large supply of 68k Macs although many of them do little or simply word process and surf the net.

I do honor our PowerBooks though. We have a total of 31 PowerBook 1X0, Duos, and 5X0 laptops. I check them out to my students and they use them for typing copy for our newspaper and yearbook. They are indispensable to us.

If you would like to donate an old PowerBook (whole, parts, working or not), we will accept it and provide you with a donation receipt. We take the resell value from everymac.com were old PowerBook prices are still quite high.

Join the cause and ship us your old PowerBooks! They will go to good use! And you will receive a tax writeoff. Email me today.

Grr... I can't get my Duo 230 to go online. I'm not sure that the internal modem is any good.

I want to check out the website on it! There's just something that feels wrong about viewing it with the G4.

We need to have a huge surever full of great old shareware as well.

Another idea for the site: everyone with a particular kind of Mac should run a Speedo 4 benchmark set on it.

Hey folks!

I LOVE you guys! Great idea. I don't really rate (only two SE's for me, but they work just fine, thanks).

Two things...

First, I've gots TONS of old 68*** software for those looking for it. It's not Shareware, but it works just fine.

Second, I just saw an article in the latest issue of MacWorld (it doesn't seem to be referenced online yet). It seems Andy Ihnatko must be a charter (or at least honorary) member of the 68K Mac Liberation Army. A quote from his closing comments:

quote:
And although I will store this Lisa away with the rest of the group, I take some very small pride in having saved another distinguished member of the Mac family from the scrap heap.

Great article. It'll make ya smile!

Hey... this is cool.

I'm posting this from CyberDog in OS 9.2.1.

the MacAddict website for the most part
WORKS in Cyberdog 2.0, which is good for
vintage Mac users.

The new website we're makeing also
works well in Cyberdog.

I served as a ParaMedic at the battle of Fairfield MRI. Hell, I've liberated so many Macs I should join this group too.
I worked at Material Recycling Industries and a little known fact is that all Mac from about the Performa period onwards are very green computers. The Mac is very easy to strip down to basic parts. We would seperate the mac and end up with bins full of...
CRT tubes= glass
CRT coils are full of copper
plastic from case and monitors = PET plastic
all metal parts are recycled
transformers = (mostly) copper
Motherboards and other components are not too green as the circuitboard is full of chemicals, but these are recycled for gold and other precious metals. This is often yeilds more value than actual mining! We would sell a 40' truck size bin for around $30k aussie dollars. RAM, disks CDROM drives and other re-usable parts were resold, although the sheer number of Macs we had meant that often even these were recycled
*I can't take it any more, oh the humanity! breaks down sobbing*
On the bright side all the PowerBooks and most PPC's upwards of a 7x00 were reconfigured and to the best of my knowledge still packed on pallets waiting to be sold.

I've got lots of stuff to contribute to the site, how much space do you have ~Coxy? I reckon I've got about 100MB worth of PDF's and information and stuff for 68k Macs.

Look, I changed my sig too!

Today I liberated four (4) LC II's in perfect condition.

It felt good to be back in the ranks, after having to ditch my SE/30 and Quadra 800 when I came under fire while on my tour in Israel.

(You think I'm kidding? I spent 2 years in Tel-Aviv, but I had to leave, or come under real fire in the Israeli Defense Force, so I gifted the Macs to university students and came back to the states. Momma didn't raise no targets!)

I own PDF technical service manuals for all of the 68k Macintosh machines.

Firewire is Fast, now you know my full 68k history, my rank's gotta be better than private 2nd class- I'm bucking for at least a Sargeant, or Officer's school-

I think it's probably not appropriate to redistribute them in a blatant public fashion, if you want to avoid Apple Legal issues. However, I wouldn't have a problem distributing a CD with them all on it, as long as it's not something that's going to be widely advertised- I don't like raising the ire of lawyers.

Maybe if we get the site looking good enough and with enough content, after all they hosted ATaT when their DSL was down, and 68kmla won't take up too much bandwidth.

I feel so humble and a virgin, but have been liberating a few older macs over the past three years. -- here is my platoon (so far)

6x Mac plus
8x SE
5x SE HD
3x SE/30
2x Classic
2x IIfx
4x IIsi
5x IIcx
3x IIci

2x LC 575
2x LC 550
4x Quadra 610
3x Quadra 650
1x Quadra 900
1x Quadra 800
6x Quadra 630
2x Mac Portable
1x PB 145
2x PB150
1x PB180
1x Duo 280c
1x Duo 2300c
2x 7100 PPC
4x Performa 5300

2x PPC 7200
1x PPC 7300

I used to have a Pippen, but my kid was way to fond of it and really cranked on the controllers and was not nice to the software, so I had to allow somebody who would worship it, take it home.

I think the few macs I have would at least allow me a rank as NCO or maybe just common deck hand... let me know.
