The greek church near my house was having a festival so I was over there and saw that in the basement there was a garage sale type setup. I wandered over to the electronics section and there it was! Facing the wall was a ColorClassic! A mac i've wanted for so long! Heh, the funny thing the label said "$5 as is" and right next to it was an SE FDHD that had a keyboard and mouse for 50 dollars! ha!

Well i got the ColorClassic and fire it up...4Mb RAM 80 mb HD, Word Perfect 2.0, Some vegas casino thing, and wheel of fortune. There also was Color super tetris but it asks questions found only in the manual and if you get it wrong, it quits! can anybody direct me to how to disable that in ResEdit? oh well...

It was funny to see the faces of the people when i walked by to bring it to the car heh one person thought it was a TV. hehe

Maybe we should go incognito...walk around in trench coats and dark glasses...if someone asks us if that ColorClassic is a TV - we say yes.

Oh yeah I was looking inside the tetris folder and saw an erraneously named generic document so i deleted it. Then when I fired up tetris, it didn't ask me questions about Russia found only in the manual.

68K Liberation Army...

Last week I acquired a Macintosh Portable. I remember the first time I saw one of those things. Sure, it was huge, but the screen was sooooo good. The screens on all other portables were just crap in comparison. I really wanted one bad after seeing it, but, they were like five thousand bucks, which was a little beyond my student worker paycheck.

So it's very neat finally having one. The even cooler bit is, it is the very same machine I though was so great about ten years ago. It's still in excellent condition, and even has the boxes for the extra battery & charger. Awesome.

I, too, got a color classic dirt cheap - $10. What a steal, its quite a computer.

Hmm, 68k Liberation Army standard-issue soldier field equipment list

1) 50 dollars (for purchase of 10-20 macintosh computers, 680x0 only)

2) torx screw driver with very long handle (for mac crackin')

3) copies of every version of system 6 (for booting up SEs w/o hard disks)

4) 2*4 piece of wood with 10" nail driven through it (for use when people think the compact mac you're carrying is a TV)

Here's my haul from a local school district that was GIVING stuff away:

1 SE/30
1 Classic II
1 Mac II (doesn't work)
1 Mac II ci
1 LC II
1 LC III
1 Quadra 605
1 Quadra 630
1 Quadra 660 AV
1 Performa 575
1 Performa 6300
1 PowerMac 7200/120 (doesn't work)
1 PowerMac 5400/180

I could've hauled away more, but went for a diverse selection. Considering my home Mac is a Performa 6200, I'm a happy man.

I bought TWO Quadra 950's for $1 each today!

Both work, but specs are as yet unknown. Hard drves, floppy, no CD ROM, but in both all the memory slots are filled.

One has a pair of NuBus cards with WEIRD connections on them.

One has an EXTERNAL 50pin ribbon cable connector, and the other has some kind of small Centronics. Inside the case, they are joined together with a 50Pin ribbon cable, that has 2 other leads on it, so I might have 2 cards in a 4 card set. NO CLUE what these are yet.

Well, the 2 mysterious cards seem to be National Instruments 488.2 interfae cards.. whioch is the GPIB interface.. which it seems is for ocilloscopes, voltmeters and other such electronics equipment.

COOL! I've been wanting something like this for years, so they are MINE.. ALL MINE!!

This one 950 I'm working with has a 400MB hard drive and 40 MB of RAM.

www.68kMLA.com is still down today, although it definitely seems like a server problem with Literature Classics. It won't even load any of our forums...

Oh and Marchie, I've seen those N.I. GPIB Nubus cards listed for $300-$500 on eBay...they're quite rare!

very cool! hey, cine', what are LaserWriter IIg logic boards going for on eBay? how do you check such things out and is it a pain to get set up and sell stuff there?

jt

p.s. i wonder if the appearance of 68kMLA.com is the problem with the forums lately or if it is just coincidental?
