Is there a bootable disk image that has that driver/software? I’ve looked around and have not been able to find one.
For disk images, they should be available on Macintosh Garden.

For bootable ones however, I'm not aware of any, so you need to boot from a different disk (e.g. System 7.x) first

Thank you all for the recommendations... (insert Borat voice) GREAT SUCCESS !

For future reference :

  • I downloaded the Lacie Silverlining software from here : https://www.macintoshrepository.org/23793-lacie-silverlining-5-8-3-silverlining-lite-2-2-1 . This one has a bootable disk image that I put on my FloppyEmu.
  • Then hold command-shift-option-del when turning the machine on to skip the HD boot and boot from the image.
  • After booting run the Silverlining software, select SCSI ID#0 and install the driver (it asks for some tests to do).
  • After this I'm stuck in a partition editor that I cannot leave, but by now the driver has already been installed.
System now boots.

I suspect the Mac driver in the image is not compatible with a 68040 or something along those lines.

Anyway, now it's play time!

Hmmm unfortunately my joy was short lived. I managed to get one proper boot out of the system on BlueSCSI but now have massive disk corruption. Even after fsck'ing the whole thing it refuses to boot into the UI and just drops me into a console mode with Getty errors etc. Need to start over.

So, I am trying the SCSI2SD approach again. I flashed it onto the SCSISD again, put it into the Quadra and booted from the Silverlining floppy. Now the strangest thing happens which might explain why it is not working... I see 3 SCSI IDs while only 2 are configured on the SCSI2SD. Verified using different boards...

Anybody see this before? The 3 SCSI disks are all invalid according to Silverlining and it is unable to repair. When I check the disk in my Mac I can display the partition table without issues.

Fun install this is... even AMIX from tape on my 3000UX was easier :)
