PowerBook 1400 series ROM and RAM tidbits

You never said you were working with two different model boards? Now I'm confused: - dates are right, the 117 was discontinued the day the 166MHz was released - you're saying you have a 166MHz processor card that works on a 117MHz board? That's not supposed to work at all. - you're saying you...

PowerBook 1400 series ROM and RAM tidbits

That's very likely a factory reworked board sent out as a replacement service part or in a MUG refurb machine sale setup. I got a couple of refurb machines that way. ISTR that's how I got my 2300c a/o my P6360. You said you swapped your ROMs between boards? Mine are soldered topside, labeled...

PowerBook 1400 series ROM and RAM tidbits

If both your cards are 24MB your donor board appears to be exhibiting an improved reaction the behavior of the 133MHz version mentioned in the everymac advisory in your IP. This now leads me to the 166' Developer Note. Can you determine and compare the production dates of the logic boards and...

PowerBook 1400 series ROM and RAM tidbits

Is there a memory test that'll let you know which 4MB block is borken? I got confused, I thought you'd said 12MB reported, but you said 16MB shows up. Sounds like user slot lines are the culprit, taking down 8MB somewhere, probably on the bottom card? Again, what are the capacities of your two...

PowerBook 1400 series ROM and RAM tidbits

Only the 117 was sold in a 12MB standard config. What sizes are your two user cards?

PowerBook 1400 series ROM and RAM tidbits

Second question, does the donor machine boot with only that factory card installed. If so, how much memory is reported? Sounds more like a CAS/RAS line problem on the board rather than a problem with the ROM to me. Paging @trag

PowerBook 1400 series ROM and RAM tidbits

Are you swapping out the "factory" memory card (MoBo RAM) as well as the "user" memory card? I'd say so given the everymac quote/link in your IP, but it never hurts to ask the basic questions just in case. ;)

    Coolest 68k Powerbooks to own?

I must have been lucky with my find, plastics seem about average compared to the couple that have crossed my path. I've avoided the too big ball 100's like the plague, so nasty as compared to the 100's medium ball in its far more refined case. That had me ready to rock the micro ball of the...

    Coolest 68k Powerbooks to own?

Concur. Nix on the Blackbirds, though. Seems to me that nothing worthwhile in the way of high end upgrades are available. It's akin to being the TAM of PBs to my way of thinking. Pricing and availability of the really good stuff is ludicrous, too many well heeled crazies in those markets...

HDMI to TMDS Adapter - Hook HDMI video source to your G4 Mac

Also interested in doing that, but as the internal background display within my 17" Blueberry Studio Display MacQuarium build. I bring this up because such adaptations need to be documented here in the Hacks Forum. Linking to such would help in marketing the Highly Desirable Macintosh Interface...

    Radius IIsi NuBus Adapter

Might that adapter be capable of polling the display card's ID in the IIsi? I wonder if there was an extension or control panel paired with that adapter? Not likely though, as @Bolle reports most any card he's tested as working in the SE/30 using Radius' NuBus adapter, albeit at only 8MHz. I...

Project30 - fourth edition - Radius IIsi NuBus Adapter build for SE/30?

We've taken a (forward) step back into Rev4 of this insanity, wondering if info in Rev5 might help here? Project30 - IIsi NuBus Adapter in SE/30 - fifth edition A lot of info regarding 020/030 NuBus implementations developed in there. MacII.HAL is 68020 and 030 PDS is 68030, so we have to take...

Project30 - fourth edition - Radius IIsi NuBus Adapter build for SE/30?

When thinking about the 16MHz MacII.HAL setup for the SE/30 PDS when the notion first came up I was worried it wouldn't work in the IIsi. Wondering about that now, might it work off C16M rather than CPUCLOCK in the IIsi? If so, three headers and a jumper or a two way switch might be in order?

Project30 - fourth edition - Radius IIsi NuBus Adapter build for SE/30?

Would that I could. My prototyping was done in the days of wire wrap when I could screen print enamel resist a/o cut vinyl on my plotter for simple one or two offs. Don't have access to a Radius NuBus Adapter. As far as I know only @Bolle and @joethezombie have them. I took one look at the mass...

Project30 - fourth edition - Radius IIsi NuBus Adapter build for SE/30?

Figured out why that first rough in of the plan didn't look right this morning. The Passthru connector was overlaping the motherboard connector pins OOPSIE! No wonder there looked to be far too much room between interconnect and NuBus slot. I'm figuring that just about any expansion...

Project30 - fourth edition - Radius IIsi NuBus Adapter build for SE/30?

Funny that this thread should pop now! Had another crazy notion that much simplified a project that's been on the back burner for quite some time. Been trying to adapt the Radius adapter in its native IIsi environment while providing for a PDS connector underneath as well. The DuoDock+ employs...

How does the upscaling work for the Apple TV Tuner Card?

IIRC, that makes all the sense in the world. Video screenshot was how I was able to cut and paste VidCap window contents into the blank window of the CMD-Shift-3 VRAM screenshot. I was playing games on the Laser128, feeding its output thru the VidCap card driving the Radius TPD of my main...

How does the upscaling work for the Apple TV Tuner Card?

My observations back in the day would indicate that everything takes place on the Video Card itself. I tried to do a screenshot of a composite signal and wound up with a blank window. Therefore Video output never hits VRAM on the MoBo. This lead me to believe the Mac side software does the...
