I would suggest using a MeowToast or MacBatt. They’re a small PCB that adapts a common CR2032 coin cell to replace a 1/2 AA lithium PRAM battery. The PRAM batteries are meant to be non-rechargeable in desktops, I’ve only seen NiCd or lithium rechargeable PRAM batteries in PowerBooks.
