    Quadra 610 video output question

Depending on the switch settings, you should be able to get 640 x 480, 800 x 600, 832 x 624 and 1024 x 768 on a VGA monitor. Adding a VRAM SIMM will get you more colors in each mode.

    Strange USB Behavior

FYI all Powermac G4 had USB 1 ports. You could buy USB 2 cards for PowerMac G4 machines, though they would only function at USB 2 speeds under OSX. All PowerMac G5 had USB 2 ports. iBook G4 had USB 2 ports. The behavior you are experiencing might be due to the different USB port speeds.

    Strange USB Behavior

I looked at the eBay listing for the 4 port USB switch, which has a clear cover and it appears to contain a mechanical switch. I suspect this switch only works at USB 1 speed 1.5 Mbit/s. I believe the Apple keyboard and mouse you mentioned are USB 1 devices. USB 2 and USB 3 switches require an...

    Oversized HDD with Mac IIsi?

Your post on December 8 shows a terminator with passive termination (resistors). Sometimes you need active termination. I think the ZuluSCSI is acting as an active terminator. If your hard drives work with a ZuluSCSI, it sounds like a permanent solution to me and not that expensive.

    Amiga: the fastest 68k Mac

I started on an Atari ST in 1985. $499 for a 520ST, 400K 3.5 inch floppy and a 640 x 400 monochrome monitor. The Amiga may have been great, but out of my price range at the time. Upgraded the ST over the years and enjoyed running Mac software with a Spectre GCR running System 6.0.5. It was an...

Can you format each individual side of a double sided disk?

Hmm - that’s not what I expected. For single sided 5 1/4 inch drives, the read/write head faced up - so the bottom disk surface stored the data.

Disk III only works when the analog board is held in the air

If you have some 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch or 1 inch standoffs, you could mount the board at different heights and record the results. Maybe mounting metal shielding between the drive and board, between two spacers.

Can you format each individual side of a double sided disk?

The OP wanted to use 2 sides of a 720K (800K) as separate disks. Same for 1.4 MB disks. I was just pointing out 720K disks are getting quite scarce and the price rises with scarcity. The OP wants to pursue these experiments. I don’t share the enthusiam.

Can you format each individual side of a double sided disk?

Yes, they are all double-sided. Never said otherwise.

Can you format each individual side of a double sided disk?

Good luck with your experiments. New 720K floppy disks are becoming difficult to find and currently sell for twice the price of 1.4 MB floppy disks according to https://www.floppydisk.com/
